Ok. Was under the impression we where talking about loctite for wore out splines. It's like dark green , I forget the number , it's not the wicking medium strength.
That stuff I used on my 400 ex hubs and I had to tourch them off.

Pinnin' it!
I'll be loctiteing the splined stub shaft in the off season. That's the only true fix.
Could you elaborate bit on this? what part that is and how it causes the rattle? thanks in advance. Has anyone else done this? Photos would be amazing!

This has been on my mind also.. My summer project at least for clutch weight pins .. I can not for the life of me figure out why Yamaha wouldn't just tap a small dimple(2 of them) on the tube that the weight shifts on. Then the set screws(2 of them) could be aligned and settle into that dimple and no way they move. They do not move now just snugged up against the inner rod. Why not just eliminate the bolt and nut all together and drop some rotating mass off the clutch.. Seems like a easy enough job for the summer.. The rollers are the same but no set screws.. WHY? tap a hole in and Allen set screw with blue lock tight eliminates the bolt and nut and MORE rotating mass off the clutch yet again.. Maybe its more involved then what my pea brain is capably of but, SOMEONE that makes a lot of money for Yamaha cant figure this stuff out??
Thats exactly what i did. Just machined a groove on the pins, alligned with the set screws. I've been running without the bolts for the past 4 seasons (about 10000miles). Just to bad Yamaha removed the set screws from the roller pins on the spyder. I would of done the same.

I have not done the mod.Could you elaborate bit on this? what part that is and how it causes the rattle? thanks in advance. Has anyone else done this? Photos would be amazing!
The stub shaft refers to the shaft that your primary clutch is mounted too , it is not actually mounted on the crank. This allows use of a large roller bearing on a "PTO shaft"
The stub is mounted to the crank via spline. There is play in the spine that's why with your sled off you can move the clutch back and forth. The mod I believe is to use a loctite on the spline to remove the play .
There is a procedure to remove the clutch and stub.
My opinion is leave it alone it's fine. Viper and nytro are the same.

I have to agree with the general consensus on this post. I call it "my little diesel", it is very loud, have never had one this loud.
Looking at the pins for the rollers, I have to wonder why they did not mimick other Yamaha clutch pins. You know the ones with Allen head set screws that hold the pin in place like on all other Yamahas I have owned, Attak, viper, srx, etc, the only one that was built cheap without the set screws was our 99 phaser. And as far as the spline movement, a bit of R&D would have gone a long ways don't you think??
Isolater, finer spline, etc..
I mean Love the motor but damn clutches are stupid loud and getting worse with now 986 miles on them.

They get noisy in the first 1000 miles and stay the same. I found with a new clutch kit it was quiet for a while and then the same thingI have to agree with the general consensus on this post. I call it "my little diesel", it is very loud, have never had one this loud.

This is strange, because all my old style Yamaha apex/rx1 clutches have set screwson this bolt holding the spider rooler in place, and they were never a problem, now I hear stuff like they are wearing a slop in the spider,WTF Yamaha, man you guys are really dropping the ball,it started off such a very nice piece of art,and now has had many little erritating problems that they could of avoided, and march and still no parts,my sled only needs one last piece to my puzzle and it will be back 100%,but I wont see any side panels for the LTX-Le any time soon..Thats exactly what i did. Yep, strange! My attak had them and doesn't exist in the nytro. Maybe they lost them for possible spyder failure. Who knows???

So after having just under 2500 on my winder the clutch was getting pretty noisy. So before I started to play with the stub shaft I decided to see where the noise is coming from first.
Is it coming from the shaft or clutch after this many miles and wear. I bolted on a new clutch and the noise just about disappeared. So the noise is mainly coming from the clutch and not the the stub shaft. Just as quite as new now.
So I started to compare the difference between the play on my clutch vs the new. Couple things that stood out was 1) the side to side play of the weights on my clutch was double of the new one 2) the side to side play on the rollers was a bit more than new. 3) the roller bolts have just started to wear into the spyder and had a bunch of side to side play.
I dug through a bunch of my 20 yrs + of clutching, jetting and other misc bins and found a pack of small shims for yamaha weights. ( not sure who made them. bender maybe).
I installed these on both the weight pins and roller pins along with carefully using emery cloth to the OEM plastic washers to get the right distance without binding the rollers or weights. I also used some small washers and tiny o-rings on the roller bolts to take out the side to side play on them.
After reinstalling my old clutch and running at a idle and running on the bench it is now 10x quieter than a new stock winder clutch. Only time will tell if the noise comes back. I plan on putting 1000 miles plus over the next week and will see how it turns out.
Sorry no pics as of now. Was rushing to get done before I take off for my trip.
I just want to hear nothing but wind when I go by my buddies 850 again. Truth be told I still beat him the last time out with a broken primary spring and was only turning around 8100 RPM.
Noise or not! broken spring or not! I will still be waiting for him with the power of this sled. Lol.

Nice Don. When you get some time it would be awesome if you could explain that to your rep so just maybe.........Yamaha will figure it out. Enjoy your trip and smoke that doo!

Green Loctite is low strength grade. Wicking property is it's attribute. I will absolutely be doing this after the season.
For what it's worth, I tried this mod back when I had my Nytro.
While it did indeed quiet the spline noise down, it did not last one ride. When I took it apart again to inspect it, the hub was full of hardened loctite fragments. I figured that it probably wasn't a good idea to have them inside the engine..... so I cleaned it out and just lived with the rattle.

If you stop waiting for your buddy, the error of his decision can really sink in and maybe he will buy something that can keep up. He will thank you. Yes WTF Yamaha is a good way of putting it. Why use a cheap 1991 phazer type clutch with new sliders. It is apparent to me that their engineers did not get theses sleds from cat soon enough to do proper testing on them. What other answer could there be?? A lot of positives with this sled, but there are some negatives which should be addressed by Yamaha not owners. Spring Surge is coming, going to be a good place to discuss theses negatives with reps..
It will be interesting to see if they realize / admit / recognize their mistake by upgrading the 2018 clutches, or just play ostrich with us.
Heck I still can't get replacement rollers for my secondary yet, (bought cat until). You have done some magic tricks to get all you've gotten so far haven't you?
