found out why i lost my speed on apexgt

i put brp wheels on for one trip there coming off it rolled nice but to much pressure on the track my dealerordered new ones seeing my bearings all seized up junk next i will try other wheels from one of my supplers next year snowbeast my sled should rock i will have some radar results by the end of the week

track

yes seen this one my self its bad real bad. i have allways run four or five rear wheels as i have seen this before on srx,s and many other high hp sleds with out the forth wheel installed. this could be why the shock is rubbing on some and not others.

Wow finally you have it,and yes these ripsaw tracks are junk in my opinion, great if you are not real agressive like i am,but they also cant take any kind of prolonged high speed on lakes, the track i would and will use in the future is the one you have 9837 fully clipped preditor track, harder durometer for better track speed and less flex, plus the 1" is better for studding and less rotating mass,it will now be fast, good luck and glad you found something,i knew something was wrong, also guys keep an eye on your bearings some of our sleds with 2000+ miles are now having some bearings fail and you may feel a vibration in your running boards or the side of your tunnel up front around your driveshaft,ok while driving take a moment and move your feet or heels up aganist the tunnel near the front and ride it fast and if you feel a slight vibration,it may be your driveshaft bearing,on your dry side they fail first, but i would bet both jackshaft and driveshaft bearings will fail close togeather as far as milage concerns, now sometimes you can have a bearing that still rools free but is slowing you down,if you have a sled that has been slowley getting slower check this out this summer. ;)!
What is it with Yamaha and bearings. I have never seen any other OEM go through bearings like they do. Why don't they put a grease nipple in for the bearing by the speedo? Seems like it would help alot. A couple of weeks ago I was on a long speed run and I actually thought I could feel a vibration coming from the rear skid somewhere, but I could not see anything. I only have 1300 miles on it, it does seem weird that it would blow the axle bearing already.

this is why i installed a new 9837 camo fully clipped track right off the bat...ripsaw to me was never any good...

also,BRP wheel are too large,I added 6 plus 2 rear axle spoked accesory book wheels in black..they look awesome, are lighter and use the thinner bearing like stockers...works well.

I am going to stud my 1 inch fully clipped with 1.175s ...half chisels, other half GD's.

Did you know the 9837 actually weighs more than the rip by 1lb... Why not the hacksaw?

Dan for awsome hook up and penetration, try the woodys double backers plates, the standard ones without the angle built into them,i studded this way on matts short track that you took out and it works sweet, the only problem is they are a little short, but i will solve that problem shortly,i used 1.175 carbide on the outside of the plate and a woody 1.20 chissle on the inside, and with the two of them in the same backer plate, the carbide will help the chissle not wear down as much and they dont flex,i think you will like it,and this time i just went with 72 double backers all in the middle of the track,2 plates on one rib and one on the next rib and back to 2 plates on the next.

the hacksaw and ripsaw are soft durometer tracks, they are not made for high speed running,if you talk to camoplast as ive done extensively, they will tell you,for top end you need the hard durometer predator series...the hacksaw is just a shorter version of rip..and the lug height is NOT the only reason i dont like rip...soft durometer and closed windows are no good IMO...

my fully clipped predator rolls much easier, weight is not the issue here, clips ad weight but they roll far better...and you can go with much lighter weight shorter studs.

i agree going with shorter chisels works well,as they hold up longer on road crossings ect...i probably wont add them this season as its near end..i think i will add them next year, probably just 48 and 48 GDs,keep total to 96 for radaring,if i really need more ill go to 144

thanks!

Dan, how many studs are you going to run. 144, down the center? Also, what is the actual lug size of the 9837 track? 1"? I believe you are correct about high speed runs, but what about out of the hole on hard packed snow compared to the hacksaw, or ripsaw 1.25 for that matter? Would they come out the hole the same? Have you compared drags races against your buds stock GT? I believe he still has the GT with the Ripsaw on it? If so, how do you fare against it for out of the hole through mid and top end? You should beat it on top end, if so by how many lengths? Sorry for all the questions, but I will change my track, If I know there is a good gain, but not just in one area.

FREAK,

hey bud...His stock GT will jump me by about 3 lengths on hardpack, but he is also 144 studded and i havent studded mine yet....I personally think the 1 inch predator since its a hard lug design bites NEARLY as good as rip,..they are close..and when i stud mine i expect myself to be right nest to the ripsaw, due to my clutching out of hole.

It surely runs faster on top end which is what ive been lookin for,we run alot lakes and radars here...i will probably start with 96 only to see how it is,with 1.175 gds.

i asked you before where you are located, are you looking to ride?..i posted a thread on my lake locally here and hope to get a bunch of machs and apex guys up here to radar here...we do have some decent trail riding left too..

you should come up for weekend...PM me if interested...

thanks
dan

I live in Sault Ste. Marie. That's a good 5-6 hr drive for me. We still have some good trails up here, so I probably will just finish up this weekend or next, but thanks for the offer. I just back from a 400 miles trip last weekend and it was an awesome ride. Left the Sault and rode Elliot Lake, Blind River and home. I left from my door. It was a great time..... Now I have time left to see what I can get out of my sled.

Well, I've been running 750+ miles with the BRP wheels and guess What? The two inners wheels have loss theirs rubbers. So this morning the sled is back to the dealers. They will let me know what the next move.
