Apex ER 13-16MPG, 03 RX-1 16-20MPG, Vector 18-20MPG. On this issue Yamaha dropped the ball(Apex ER). Yes I understand they created more HP with Apex. I dont have the bore and stroke spec available to compare, but I would bet its close if not the same. They were also boasting/advertizing increased fuel efficiency which is simply not true. I think the Apex should be remapped as it seems to be running rich/fat. Was that in SnowTech that said A Apex RTX was getting 20 MPG. If it is I want my sled remapped to match. Anybody have any suggestions???? :4STroke: :yam: When cars went to EFI from carbs the performance and mileage increased a ton. I was hoping for the same mileage as my RX-1 with the HP increase.

Yup, in our group, it's the same as you describe...AND, the guys on the Vector and RX1 are driving a lot harder than me!!

Weird how supertuner reported the Apex to be lean on topend.....

Here is some fuel for thought. I ride 05 Vector ER & get great mileage. Average about 160 - 200 miles per tank. My son rides 06 Apex ER & always puts in about $1.00 - $2.00 more than I do at fuel up. Most of the time he is out in front and running pretty hard. This past weekend I rode lead for about 70 miles & stopped for fuel. He actually took $0.50 less fuel than I did. First time all year. He has 2600 miles on Apex, I have 4400 miles on my Vector. Just my $0.02.

I have noticed that when a Vector is run harder or in softer snow the mileage drops a bit. When I had my RX-1 compared to the Vector it was a $1.00 or less difference at the pump. You son should consider himself lucky if he's hanging with you MPG wise. Did he have the injectors synchronized, or did he just get lucky???

No it has never been back to the dealer. He has had no problems other than the wheels delaminating.

Very misleading for Yammi to claim 20 mpg on these sleds. From the sounds of it, many of the new 2 strokes are getting just as good mileage. That just doesn't seem right. My 03 shorty is a consistent 14 to 16. Sounds like the new efi motor is below that. Wouldn't you think it would be more efficient, even at higher rpm?

My buddies Apex and my Warrior would constantly be within $1 at fill-ups during our 1350 mile trip in Canada last month. Sometime me more and sometimes him. We both weigh about the same. Thats with gas at about $3.80 a gallon (about $1 a liter) so the difference was about 1/4 gallon.

We never figured mileage so I can't tell you what we were getting.

Sometimes, I wonder if the OEM's talk in Imperial or U.S. gallons and they get confused on the two. I can get 18-20 Imperial gallons on my GT, which is about 14-16 U.S. gallon.

I don't remember Yamaha claiming 20 m.p.g.

Watch the 07 DVD. Johnny does a whole piece on how owning a 4 stroke is so much cheaper then a 2 stroke. Clearly claims the Yammis get 20 mpg. I could see claiming 14 - 16, but 20 is very misleading. Maybe the same guy figured the mileage that calibrated the speedos. LOL.

They may be claiming that on the 07's but I never seen any claims of that for the 06's prior to ordering mine. They may have changed the mapping for 07 which could benefit us 06 owners as well.

I don't believe there is 'mapping' like you guys refer to it.......

07 specs state a completely different ignition system from 06 on this motor. This spec change has been brought up several times on this forum, but nobody has yet to explain why this spec change occurred....makes me wonder if maybe they have remapped something for the 07's.

As far as that Johnny dude making a 20 mpg claim, I don't believe he was referring to just the 150 hp model. You gotta remember the Vector/Nytro makes about 20, and the Phazer I'd bet will do closer to 25 mpg. And his comparison to 8 mpg on a 2 stroke? I'd call that embarrassing. Especially when Doo's 2 stroke SDI's have been pulling 20mpg for years, the others are starting to offer their own cleaner/more efficient motors especially for 07. Even the very worst 2 stroke gas pigs in the 06/07 fleets will get about 11 or 12. They should have stuck with the cost of oil if they wanted to have some credibility there. Nobody cares that an 07 Apex will do better on fuel than some 10 year old triple 2 stroke...why did they pick such an old sled for comparison, it's almost like admitting they can't compete with the new sleds...I laughed at that myself no matter how much I do like Yamaha sleds.

But in their defense, if we're getting 15 Apex 20 Vector and maybe 25 Phazer, I think they can safely say they're getting 20 out of their fleet.

But why nitpick? This is just advertising. ALL advertising is misleading practically by definition. If you don't like the mileage your sled is getting, sell it. It's that simple.

Don't forget that the speedo is off by 15% or so, so mileage is not as good as what it seems. My stock RX1 without the speedo correction does around 18 miles per imperial gallon and my RX1 Turbo with the speedo correction (actually a little under), does 15 miles per imperial gallon. Ride them hard and it drops from there.

Just the speedos are off, not the odometer.
