Fuel Pump Issues

The only thing is that the Starter Relay I took off my sled did not have the metal connection from the positive terminal going under the fuse. (The metal piece on the left side of the photo)

It doesn't change to a different #, so it should be identical

if you jump the two large terminals does it crank? if so you are either not getting signal to the relay or its a bad new part. it is common to get corrosion on the multi pin connector that plugs into the top check and clean that connection and put some dielectric grease on it too. If it don't crank then you don't have power to it or somehow created a loose connection to the starter.

Apex and Vector use the same starter relay. The tricky thing is that they are not interchangeable unless you swap your fuse terminals ( metal tab goin under the fuse) from existing relay to new relay.
Cant remember the orientation but Vector and Apex are exact opposite and if you get a Vector relay and install it into your Apex it will not start.

Apex and Vector of the same year do not use the same relay. Apex is fuel injected and the fuel pump power source starts at that relay. Vector is carbs.
Start by getting the proper relay.

The relay is exactly the same from Vector to Apex. The configuration to the fuses however is different. If your dealer only has a Vector relay you can use it in your Apex. All you need to do is keep your 30amp fuses and the metal fuse trace from the old relay.
Have done this twice as for some reason the local dealer only seems to stock Vector relays.

From this day forward I will change my definition of different to mean exactly the same.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. So I may be a little slow but is there a trick to getting the fuse blocks off of the starter relay? I can't seem to get them to move and am not sure as to how much force to put on them to 'pop' off if they aren't supposed to do that at all.

Hey everyone,

Thanks again for all the help but I'm in need of a little more...

So before I was getting no fuel pump but the sled was turning over fine.

I ended up discovering that the fuel fuse located on the starter relay under the airbag was broken and I couldn't get it out so I just ordered a new starter relay. Now here's my issue...

I've got it all back together and the fuel pump kicks right on but now I'm not getting the starter turning over the motor. No clicking or anything just nothing...what have I done now?

Thanks again and happy holidays...hopefully some day I'll be back on the train and can buy some of you guys a beer for all the help...
Just for shits and giggles is the kill switch on? :dunno:

I wish...I've checked more than once hoping that was it. I'm going to mess with the relay fuse blocks tomorrow and hopefully that 'll do it. All the rain hitting the area today and tomorrow is making this easier to deal with as compared with prime snow on the trials so I guess that's a plus.

If you put the old relay back on does it then crank once again?

I am going to give that a try tomorrow. Weather wasn't cooperating today so I had a few other projects that needed attention sooner. I have to swap the fuse bracket as the one on the old relay had a broken fuse tab inside that I couldn't get out.

Is there a way to know the difference between the Vector relay and the Apex? Maybe I got the wrong one by mistake...

Not sure but give Kevin a call at Port Yamaha, he can help you with that as he is a genius anything Yamaha!

So first off I want to give a huge thank you to this awesome site yet again!

I disassembled the sled again, took the starter relay off and checked out where the fuse leads were heading and WHOA, they were heading to the wrong side (Vector?)

So I took the fuse lead off my old relay and popped that on. After getting everything back together the Fuel pump kicked right on and then I squeezed my eyes realllll tight :(and BAM it fired right up. :die

Now that just saved me a trip to the dealer because that is definitely not something I would have looked for and I was at the end of my thoughts about it.

The sled is all greased, Floats air pressure checked and she's ready for some snow...except I live in NY so it's time to throw it on the trailer and head to the hills!

Thanks again everyone and think snow!
