Heys guys, I was just offered a great buy on 96 (brand new) studs and backers. On the package it reads 1.25" nominal. Holding them next to the stock FX track, the tips of the studs are about 1/4" beyond the track lugs. I'm worried they might be to long, any thoughts?
Thanks,
Trevor

That sounds about right. I ordered 1.075 max studs for mine and they are about 1/4" above the lugs.

You better make sure that you have the suspension set on hard, because if you dont the studs will bend and shred the metal on the back side of the heat exchanger. It did it to both mine and my brothers FX.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what does the suspension set on hard have to do with anything. The top of the suspension is bolted to the tunnel and will not move. Only way the studs will hit anything is from the track being too loose and balooning or slapping as it rotates between the tunnel and the top of the suspension. I installed 96 1.075 studs and tried it for 20 miles with no protectors and everything was fine, but then installed 2 24" protectors from the rear of the tunnel forward for piece of mind. no problems yet.

I just used a set of hyfax (slides). they are 3/4" thick so theres plenty of protection.
