I switched my gears to 21-41 also. I considered going higher. Mines turboed and I thought it might eliminate some spinning on hole shots and increase fuel range---I was right on both accounts. I got 16.1 MPG my first 100 mile trail ride. No need for these low gears IMHO.

I'd love to see an rtx or ltx with the 21/41 gears and no other mods except clutching. Any xtx guys have the 21/41 gears and chain they'd consider selling? I bought all 3 parts brand new from yamaha for $151 with tax.

I would like to figure out something soon. Have clutch done , primary, secondary spring ,helix and weights and mbrp exhaust and header.( all set up by bender racing Canada). Still about 95 although get there almost instantly . The rpm have straightend out and very nice smooth just short about 10-15 mph . The acceleration is awesome and sled handles very nice can't give up . I'm keeping an eye on gearing see where this goes. If I can get 105-110 whenever I want this would be the ideal machine for me.

Still waiting for my sled to get finished up, once I do I'm sending the gears and chain out to a member here for him to try in his rtx le.
Sounds like the gearing is helping the RTX LE top speed. We'll see what Weasel reports back after his trip.
What bothers me is that we seem to need to shove more gear at it and that it does not want to max out the lower gear ratio. It's as if it does not like the OD.
This also has me wondering what would happen if a std model like Cannondale's went up a notch?

I have a turbo rtx and tried the 21/41 gear which were better but went up to 24/41 and I think its even better with a turbo

I dont believe it will pull it consistently. Not pulling stock gearing near enough times to make me happy now. Would be interesting though since I am sure there is a sweetspot both clutches want to be in naturally. Phazer 1 tooth smaller on top gave me more topend consistency and fun on bottom. Did not have to change clutching at all. Just the gear. Tried higher and lower ratio. Rpms stayed same. Was easy experiment. This sled there is no way I am chancing screwing something up removing Chaincase/Oil tank nightmare until after season is over. Up to you TD and Weasal find the Optimum gearing!

Curtis you would not have the low gearing TD and Weasel have. We are in same boat. Same gearing. What you want is a very tall order. I would be happy with 100mph every time I want! Lets start another thread for the standard gearing like ours though.

Changing the gearing on Thursday. But my dealer is doing it, cause if something happens I want to be able to give it back and say you worked on it now you can fix it.I dont believe it will pull it consistently. Cannon, why don't you think you will get any consistency out of it

Does the 1.7 in (blue and white LE) have lower gear than the 1.25 track. And why doesn't skidoos 4 stroke have this issue what do they do that Yamaha doesn't.

Yes the blue and white le has 21-49 gearing where a standard viper or even the blue and orange le have 24-50 gearing.
