I have no comlaints about my '05 at all. But to be truthful even that is a pretty big jump from the '03-'04 sleds.

Let's be honest / It's time for another brand of sled / the sooner you admit to it , the sooner you'll be happy, TRADE IT , but please NOT for a Yamaha !!!

Get simmons skis
06 Mono RA skid
45' front end kit from Pioneer Performance
Add 4" of foam to the seat
My sled now kicks serious booty. I went out today and put 50 miles in the really rough ditches and couldn't believe how much better my sled is compared to last year. There is no ski lift!!! I can use the throttle to kick the rear end around without fear of pushing thru a corner any more. The rear skid is just plain awesome. I am a huge fan of the RTX rear skid I put in. I would never had ditch banged my poor action skid, but I am thrilled to hit the rough stuff now. My whole outlook on the sled is different with these changes. I agree stock the 03 ride sucks, but I am so overly happy with the sled I cannot begin to tell you.

Hell, I took the Mono RA out of my 05 and went BACK to a Pro-Action 136 and the sled handles perfect, says the guy with the Apex that could not touch it in the twisties last weekend.
All the front end needs are good skis. You want it planted? Get a set of USI SPX skis.
Want the rear to work, get the proper springs for your weight, and set the adjustments.
Want to out accelerate a F7? Get....... well, I will keep that to myself

I bought my sled for the motor, period. I hesitated BIG TIME before buying it because of all the problems my friend had with his old SRX...between crank issues, something with the front suspension or skis, and some other issues, he only got about 2 weeks of riding the whole first season!!! It was in the shop the rest of the time. But nobody else has stepped up to the plate with an engine even close to ours, so i bought this as soon as it came out.
Like I said, I bought it for the engine. At first I thought the suspension was O.K., but that was because I came from an old Cat...a '95 ZRT. But once I got on other sleds and tried them, I really hated my skid. I was also unimpressed with the traction, and the cornering did indeed suck. Thats one place where my old, nose-heavy ZRT outperformed this one...cornering. Thats pretty sad to say. But hey, I had the engine!
Now I have the Cat skid in it. No $2000 custom suspension, just a $250 ebay Cat ZR skid assembly. That cleared up almost every handling problem with it. While I was at it, while testing the skid, I used my old Cat track with 96 studs. Nothing crazy...no ripsaw, no tons of picks. just a 10 year old Cat track...and now it really hooks up. I couldn't imagine what it would do with a Ripsaw or other modern track.
I tried an '05 last season. It was O.K., but it just felt like my sled, except my rear suspension feels better. Might be my own personal tastes, but I actually like my cat skid better than the Mono. I also tried an Apex the same day as the '05. I have to say it was AWESOME. If i had the money I would invest in an Apex or Attak. But I don't have the money, and to tell you the truth, I still like mine enough to not have to dream about the new models. Its a "gee, it would be nice someday", not a "damn, i NEED one of those!!!"
So I can relate to what you are saying about the handling and suspension. But trust me, if you didn't have the $$$ to upgrade to a new model, a cat skid would be a very affordable way to make your old sled feel like new. As far as the carb issues, have them checked out...I have never had a complaint about any hesitation, bogging, or power issues. In fact, if you are losing against 600's, change tracks...if you had more traction than the crappy P.O.S. '03 finger track gives, you wouldn't be losing races.
Example time. Before swapping rear skids and tracks 9the only mods I've done to my sled), had power, but could never take any of my friends because of poor traction. In the corners I would have to let up and try to catch them on the straights. Now I have a whole new riding style and ability. When running with my friends (MXZ 700 and an F7), I'm more than able to keep up. In fact, my friend put his MXZ off the trail because he was getting his feelings hurt trying to keep up with me in the corners, and finally tried to pass me. He didn't have a chance. On the lake its the same thing. Last season, even with a tired motor (lots of blowby, and a weak ignition because of a bad stator and low battery), I played on a lake and beat BOTH the MXZ and the F7! Thats with a BONE STOCK '03 motor! I don't know if that F7 had issues or not, but it was only a few weeks old and should have been running fine. The difference is that I now have HOOKUP, TRANSFER, and HANDLING. i can't wait to see what happens this year with my new motor ('05 engine), and rebuilt shocks.

Dear redrx1rkt (crybaby),
I have an 05' and in only a year the sled is considered obsolete. My brother-in-law just traded his 75K BMW X-5 for a new Range Rover sport, lost 30K during the trade just because he wanted the newest and greatest. If you expect to assume technology is going to stay still your gonna keep crying. Should have bought a Doo in 03', but YOU wanted the latest and greatest, now your crying like a girly-man. Years from now you'll look back and say, "I had the first real 4-stroke snowmobile and it revolutionized the industry". Suck it up or buy a new machine. What kind of computer do you have and how does it handle in the corners compared to a new 3.6 ghz p4 machine?????

I'm assuming he typed that post with some humor in mind...or at least I hope so. After all, if he was truly ticked at his RX, then I doubt he would even be looking at another Yamaha.

I think you guys kinda missed our point. The expectation when you buy top of the line is... top of the line. Sure if you replace all the suspension with after market it handles better. But its not a Yamaha anymore. I could take my 03 engine and stick it in a Legends race car and it would handle great.... on pavement. The point is, you don't go out and buy a Corvette so you can replace the springs, shocks, sway bars, tires, etc so it handles like a sports car. Even in 03, the RX1 was outdated compared to the other brands in every dept. except the engine. And that comes with such a big weight penalty, that's probably outdated as well. Do they look nice, yup, but that doesn't make them run any better, and having to dump thousands into a sled just to make it handle average is just plain BS.

Oh, for a good of riding! It's hard to drift into the corners when you're worried about protection. Maybe the Always Allday Maxi can ease your mind. The Allday is a thick absorbent pad designed to work when you're flying down the rough trails. Its extra length means extra security and support whatever your rider position. Its shape is contoured for comfort. Flexible wings wrap around your panties, keeping the pad in place and offering side-to-side protection for those tight and twisting turns. With the Allday, it's safe to ride hard and feel in control. Finally, something to help absorb those nasty moguls you've been worried about. Your dreams await.

Stop complaining and approach a problem with a more modest effort. Bottom line is that if he is so sick of the sled than GET RID OF IT!!!!
