We are staying in baraga. Does anyone have trails or routes that you would recommend. I keep reading about all these guys putting on some big miles but not really saying where they are going. We will be new to the area we usually go to the hayward area and are trying to get away from all the tight trails. Thanks

Going to be thin in town. Trail north to chassel dosent report look to good.
Don't know about conditions but the trail(14) to Big Bay usually rocks! And you can always put some miles on in the keweenaw. Maybe check the trail conditions page over at johndee for more info.

X2 Trail 14 to big bay is my personal favorite. It's 56 miles to big bay via trail 14. You can fuel up, get some food, and head back or continue another 75ish miles to marquette. Marquette is not sled friendly though, no sleds allowed in town. Keewanaw is pretty good chasel to houghton (cool bridge) then some elevation around copper harbor. Gas will be high in the keewanaw as there aren't many stations especially on the east side. Have fun, hope conditions are good.2010XTX said:Don't know about conditions but the trail(14) to Big Bay usually rocks! And you can always put some miles on in the keweenaw. Now to sound bad but Baraga and L'Ance area usually dont have good snow...get away from town and it will get better...been sleding since it started and only stayed ( or tried to stay) in that area once and got burned. If u already got rooms worst case u might have to trailer a few miles out but should be able to ride out of there...just might be thin. If u aint got rooms go west a bit if that is the way u r ridin..

when you get to baraga jump into your truck drive alston on M38 about 10 miles west. stop at the bar on M38 its on north side just outside of town. ask the owner if you can park there next morning. trail is just pass the bar. quick way to get to twin lakes.
when you get back to your truck give a little something owner. nice people.
we say at the casino, special pricing for snowmobilers.

Was just in the UP last weekend. Stayed in Houghton and on sunday 2 of us took the trails down to twin lakes and over on 12 and up on 109 to Alsto. 12 wasnt bad but 109 was terrible. I would reccomend not staying in baraga, go as far north or west to get to better snow. They arent even grooming the trails over there right now due to lack of snow. Dont get me wrong, theres plenty of snow up there you just have to go to the right area. Twin lakes is probably the furthest south that has sufficient snow. good luck.

Had a great trip! Stayed in Baraga. Casino was decent with ok places to eat. Really surprised at being able to get 93 octane fuel and premium 91 at most places. Alot of the places had pay at the pump which helps. 109 was brutal south of alston. 14 was ok better after it was groomed. Leaving the casino and going through baraga was terrible and got annoying. 8/15 was awesome, 8, 3, 12, were very good. The sidnaw to bruce crossing trail was great saturday. There was a few spots and some icy spots but with as many riders as we saw thats to be expected. The usual later on in the week, the trails got a little beat up and icy. We put on about 470 miles running those loops. I need new hifax which were new, but when you hold her pinned for that long you're bound to do that. I raised my limiter a couple before we left and the track really loose. I had one hand up. We went to unload for the first time on thursday and my battery was dead and wouldn't take a charge so I went to Pat's Yamaha in Greenland and he had one. We didn't get started til about 1230 that day but no problems after that. All in all a good trip if I was going to do it again I would have stayed a little further west and went in each direction from there to avoid going through the bad trails around Baraga which took a good twenty to thirty minutes getting beat up and probably a good portion of my hifax wear and my new stock carbides were shot right away as well. They did the same thing on my phazer when it was new too so I guess the factory ones are pretty cheap. I put on woodies after that and went 2000 miles with those carbides and about the same with aftermarket hifax. We will definitly do it again!
