Cannondale, are you saying that if the fan update has been done, then the updated harness eliminates this problem connector?
I have the fan update, and (I will have to double check) I don't think I have this yellow connector.
Thanks,
Rick
Yes.At least on mine that is the case. Not sure if they had more than one version of fan update for the standards.I do know that the other Phazer models already had the plug for the fan just not the fan itself so in that case the original wiring harness would still be there.

Thanks cannondale27
That is some good info. I will have to go check to see if I have the recall or not.
You quite understandably misunderstood. It is not a recall. It is a Bulletin so dont bother your dealer unless you see this plug or wires melted or evidence of heat.Wouldnt be a bad idea to go through and clean and dielectric grease all connectors in harness and battery to prevent this issue from happening also.
Alright thanks!!

'07 Phazer GT already had a plug for the fan in the original harness.

cannondale27 said:Its a technical bulletin. That means it doesnt get fixed unless you have a issue.Mostly failure to start. Is a plug and wires going to it that can show signs of overheating and that causes no start.Fix is a subharness that routes some of these wires directly to the battery - terminal. So if yours has more than just the big negative wire at battery you probably have the update. If wiring or yellow plug shows signs of overheating you need update in my opinion BEFORE it doesnt start. Why would some do it and some not?Probably using Dielectric grease in all connectors would prevent corrosion and maybe prevent the wiring from being overloaded. My sled does not have this connector at all.Updated 07 harness for fan.
I was going to say. It's not a recall. I got off the phone with my local Yammi dealer 3 hrs ago checking what was recalls and what was Technical bulletins. The only recalls were the usless snow guards that were supposed to reduce snow buildup on the tunnel. The other was the steering idler arm or something like that.. My Phazer is 07 btw.

Good information on the wiring. I will go with the advice of the dielectric on the connections as I'm taking most of the heat issues is due to dirty contacts in these connections and the current running through them.
Well this one isn't hard to go back and do.
Thanks again to all for info.

I recieved a letter this fall about a recall on the foam in the air box and the rivets that hold down the screen. Just wondering if this is a old recall or a new one? I have had all the others done.
how do you recieve letters, we have 8 yamahas and we have never had anything sent to us for recalls. we had to talk to our dealer and he did the updates and recalls. but we wouldnt of had anything done if we didnt buy some of the things from him.
It should be automatic from Yamaha since your sled must be in the system.I believe I recieved 2 letters. One for balljoint bolt loosening in 07 and other for steering update in 08.Those were Safety Recalls and you will only get letters for recalls.Others are just on a as needed basis.

I'm right there with Nightsniper.....

I had the fan mod done a couple years ago. I wasn't really having over heat issues, temp light came on only a couple of times in marginal conditions. Dealer had no problem installing at no charge (warranty). Temp light has never come on since.
Regarding this recent yellow connector and the wire harness over heat possibility, I never had any symptoms or evidence of prior heat issues. Dealer actually brought it to my attention saying it applied to Phazers in general. No questions asked.... they scheduled the work and its now complete. I feel better knowing it won't be a future problem. Why wait to the point of failure? This wasn't done as "a favor", but as a precautionary measure. You must remember the dealer has no problem complying with this work as they submit all charges and are reimbursed by factory Yamaha. Guaranteed income. Win win situation.

I am not sure why all dealers dont jump on these and do them all for all thier customers but they dont.Yamaha doesnt require it.Maybe more profit in other jobs.Would I like to get all the updates and bulletins done as preventive measure?Of course but I only have so many points with my dealer and when those are gone its not fun. Those that have dealers that do all these bulletins as a preventive measure are very lucky.

I just purchased an 07 GT and took it into the dealer for all of the updates that were never done. While there I learned that I have one more year on the extended warranty. That made my day. While the sled was apart, he showed me that my wiring harness was completely melted. He said Yamaha knows of this problem and will fix it on the spot. Everyone should check their wiring before the next ride. I do not have much seat time with this sled, but I love riding around the yard with kids.

I figured out that all the dealers are much different and it seems like they run business however they want. Fortunatly, my dealer called to inform me of this harness recall and did the work asap.
This lack of consistancy is difficult to deal with IMO.

I understand what Cannondale is saying about points with the dealer. In my town it is basically a kind of bizzaro-world...the dealer operates on the "what can you do for me with absolutely no motivation on my part because where else are you going to go" business model.
So most of us end up doing these things ourselves. But I like Yamaha too much to let the local guy get me down. Unfortunately its a two hour drive to any other dealer.
Does anyone have a picture of where the damage could/has occured? I would like to keep an eye on the spot. I think I know where but would like some confirmation.
Thanks!!

There is a pic on first page of the connector. From reading the bulletin it and wiring to it is where you would see heat damage.
