Needs suspension set up help to avoid bottoming. I got an ER and am weak on the GT set up.

Hey Tork,
Not sure what sled you have. I'm looking for some help with my Gt rear suspension set up. My weight is 200 and I have my preload set to max with my compression set to max. I still bottom on G outs. My rebound setting is stock. Not sure if I should go with the next size spring 5.5mm. Any thoughts.. Thanks Jim from Ma.

That stock spring on the gt is just too soft.I'm about the same weight & bottomed out too easily. Change to the stronger spring.

Tightening up the rebound will help a little, but there's no way a semi-agressive rider can keep from bottoming with that stock spring. Go with the heavier spring. There's no con's to it, just pros!

Get the bigger spring.. It the next thing on order for me... i can just over ride that spring soo easy!!
Ive got my spring maxed out and compression maxed and rebound almost max.. doesnt bottom much,,, but it still bottoms (sometimes hard)

Put a tie wrap on the silver shiny part of the mono shock and push it up against the shock. Then sit down on the sled gently (don't bounce) in full gear, then lift the rear of the sled off the ground. With the sled suspended measure the gap between the tie wrap and the shock body. It should be 40 -45mm. If it is within tolerance, then set the rebound hard and ride it. If it's not in tolerance then read the post above about setting the proper ride height. I put a link at the end of this. There is a min and max spring length you can go to it's in that post. You should bottom out occasionally when riding hard or rough trails, that means you are using the full travel of the suspension. If you aren't getting your back broke it's all good. Also check your rebound on the mono shock. If it's set to soft it will lot return completely between bumps and the travel gets shorter and shorter. You can eyeball this, by pushing down on the rear of the sled and see if it comes back up quickly. It will only come back to the sag spot not fully extended. If it comes up slow then increase the rebound. If you have to much rebound it will buck and hit you in the a$$. I weigh 225 in gear and have no problem with my GT.http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php?t=20318
