Warrior 162 studs, track with 1" sag, all settings light, first ride [without studs] got 15 mpg gas. Now getting 12-13 mpg. 1300 mi on machine. Air box clear, only other mod is shut off valves. Also had to change belt squeling [spelling] when taking off up to about 10mph; new belt stoped that, but smell belt . help anyone boone

I wonder if your shut off valves might be too small...this would starve the motor sometimes, and you'd wind up needing more throttle to do the same work...Otherwise, need to check out all the normal things. How's your plugs look?

What kind of riding conditions are you in? If you are doing a lot of WOT ungroomed field riding 12-13 mpg is about average. The best I ever got on my shorty was 15 mpg.

fuel mileage

VMax John never had the plugs out. TJ air box is stock checked to see if there was snow in it. RX1L no WOT but a lot of cross country riding. thanks for your reply

Fuel mileage is a direct relation to RPM VS Speed, you can go through the tight and twisties and get poor mileage.

You can cruise at 40 at 6000 rpm or cruise at 60 at 7000 rpm and get better mileage at 60.

Clutch kit can kill mileage.

TJ thanks for the info. I am going to my cabin next week there is a lot of miles of trails and I will see how it does just riding @ a constant speed. boone

I think all of us may have missed/not understood what you meant in the last sentence: "smell belt".

If you smell belt, something is wrong. Either your brake is hung or something else is making it work too hard. Check clutches and be sure they are CLEAN and free of grease. Sometimes a mechanic will change the belt and have greasy hands - it doesn't take much - and this essentially ruins a brand new belt. There is allot of controversy about using cleaners on the aluminum surfaces of the clutches but isopropyl alcohol would be safe.

Let us know . . .

When I ride at a fairly constant crusing speed I'll get+ 15 mpg's/ however it's hard to keep your foot out of it when driving this sled/ the "FUN FACTOR" is just irrestable/ and even then I'll still get 14-14 1/2 mpg/ If your sled is proforming fine and there are no other problems I'd leave it alone/ later

Vt54 from day one with the warrior I could smell the belt the primary clutch was very hot about 600mi put in larger shims in secondary ran it to 1100 mi then it would squeel up to 10mph. Checked off set it seemed ok with the floating secondary. Put in new belt you could smell the belt, turned secondary 3-3 to 2-6 only put a few miles on primary is a lot cooler but still seems a little warm.
