Hey, I have a question for you guys that have upgraded your Vector with Apex/ Nytro seats. My used Apex seat did not come with the tailight harness. No problem, I'll just use the harness from my Vector seat. NOPE. Even with the wiring connector removed from the harness, I can't pull the harness through the seat frame. It is a tight fit between the foam and seat frame and I'm afraid to pull on it any harder as I'm about ready to pull the wires apart. Does the Apex seat have an external harness? I'm at a loss as to how the last owner removed it if it went through the seeat like the Vector. I'm thinking I need to order a tailight harness and leave it taped to the underside of the Apex seat to complete the swap?

I just completed putting an Apex GT seat on my Vector GT. I tried to do the same thing your did and also gave up. The Apex seat harness is also inside of the seat, but it didn't bother trying to pull it out after the other one didn't move. I'd suggest you route a new harness under the seat. There are plenty of spaces that it could go through and with a little grinding of the plastic there shouldn't be any worrys of rubbing through.

Good luck with your project. Can't wait to try mine. Only problem is that anyone not familiar with Yamahas will not notice that mine's been changed, the styling and stripe are that close.

Dusty

Thanks Dusty. Somehow the previous owner got the Apex harness out with no damage. I think I'll just cut the plugs off my Vector seat and solder in the wires and make my own harness and secure it to the bottom of the seat. Did you use a template to cut your gas tank shroud?

I know what you mean about nobody noticing. Mine looks like a blue Nytro with a taller windshield. Oh well, it's got a trunk! ;)!

If you bought your seat off of an Apex Mountain they do not have the wiring harness inside the seat as the tail light isn't in the back of the seat, it is on the end of the tunnel extension. The only way to properly get the tail light wiring out or routed back through the seat is to take off the seat cover.

When you put an apex seat on a Vector, for trail riding, is it possible and a good choice to keep the original handlebars or it is a must to go with the Nytro kit?

Thank you! That explains the missing harness on my mountain seat. I am just going to run the harness underneath secured to the bottom in a non-pinch area. Can't wait as this seat should work great with the new bar position.

Nordik, this seat looks a couple inches higher that the Vector and you'll be a little farther forward. I'd recommend doing something with the bars if you change seats. Just a small pivoting or an offset riser would work good ith the stock Vector bar. I did the bar first and liked it a lot more even with the Vector seat as I couldn't stand up on it before.

Just a suggestion, why not try to fish, say a coat hanger, through the foam in the bottom and attach the wiring to it and pull it through?

That's a good idea to get the harness inside the seat Grimm, trouble is that it is such a tight fit I can't even pull the harness out of my old seat. I was hoping to reuse the Vector harness but I'm not going to take the seat apart to get it. The Vector seat is supposedly sold. ;)!

Sorry I couldn't field that one for you Mike. Hope you get it figured out. My Nytro seat came with the harness, from the dealer so I didn't have to wrestle with that.

Still looking for the remnant from the tank cut-off. Wife was cleaning the garage (her space now - I have a new shop) so I don't know what she might have done with it, if she came across it???

Good Luck!

Thanks Brian. Not too worried about the wiring anymore, it should be fine routed externally under the seat. There is an opening in the trunk for the harness to be run through to get to the back of the tailight. Guess I'll look at your old posts about marking the shroud for cutting and hopefully everything will go fine. I also saw an old photo from another member (DaJudge?) that showed the cut off piece with a tape measure showing the amount cut.

Here ya go

It's relatively easy to do.

Thanks for saving me the search Brian. ;)! Sounds like a logical, straight forward way to do it. Using the actual seat to trace the outline will give the right contour for the cut. I should be fine!
