I’ve thought I finally was onto a good clutch set up until I installed a razor back temp gauge. When I’m seeing clutch temps in the 160* range the top surface temp read by gauge and confirmed by laser to be 200*+. I’m over 1000 miles on current belt 400 of them with the Razorback. When running in deep snow across fields or lake. Every time I burp throttle the belt temp goes up which I think is to be expected but I’ve seen as high as high as 220* +. Even running on groomed trails belt gets hotter than I know it should. I’ve been chasing and following a lot of set up on this site which has been good and frustrating at the same time. Clutch surface is very clean. Not everyone’s set ups works across the board. What I’m looking for and I think will be helpfull to others is the answer to a couple of questions.
Is the temp difference in top belt top surface and clutch shive temp normal? 40*+
What direction should I be tweeking to bring down temps
? More weight less weight
?more or Less spring in secondary
I’m not sure if these questions can be answered with out knowing my specific set up. I’m hoping someone can give me some direction.

I’m thinking my secondary has float. Not exactly sure how to not have float with belt deflection adjuster
Like I said my clutches are way cooler than top of belt. In 9500 mile I’ve had runs of blowing belts been on this set up for probably 1800 miles current belt has 1200 miles on it. I’m the last three rides with the Razorback I’ve seen 220 multiple times and belt still looks awesome. On an twisty 65mph groomed trail average belt temp 200* ish any lake running or powder/ braking trail and long straight away On ( 70-90 ) groomed trials is where I see the high temp , they would go higher if I wouldn’t back off . I’ve done very little high speed runs because of the heat I see
not sure what to do I like the set up for putting power down just concerned about the temps of the belt b

Add some additional venting, intake and exhaust venting. get as much cool air moving through your engine compartment as you can and that will probably do the trick to get your temp's down.K current set up is :

140-170 degrees normal, I run trails, it will get hotter when you stop, over 1500 miles on mine, will change end of season ,they get hot . I have Razorback, your belt obviously holding up good. Don’t overthink it. If your blowing belts then I’d change. Just saying

I have a Razor back gage, run an 8DN belt, and typically my belt temps are 140 - 170 for normal riding as well. After multi mile ultra high speed runs on a rail bed or lake my belt temps will climb up over 200 when stopped. I also have the sled fully vented and have learned to do a little slow riding for a bit after the high speed runs before shutting down to keep the belt temps lower.
Over 2000 miles on an 8DN last year and only changed it because I figured it was time.

Also 24/50 gear on this belt
I added one vent on side and one on the back knee area made zero difference to my surprise. First ride was -4* C and first test with vents it was -27*c. Saw same temp on same trail made zero diff. I am going to try my stock air box to see if that willl make a difference .

200 is way to hot. No way to sugar coat it for you, and not trying to be rude but you need to adjust your clutching. You mention when you hit it /blurp that your temps shoot up.. I personally think you should adjust your twist on the secondary spring.. And or make sure nothing is binding.. Like springs or rollers .. Usually the binding is really magnified on hard pulls.. I would possibly start lower and work your way up on twist in the secondary. Its possible to have TO MUCH twist up top, and you need to find your balance on your set up.. That's a lot of track your spinning also.. I'm not familiar with running that track and those gears. But that track lug high could be causing heat also. You either need less twist or more, and or different secondary spring..

Correct. Gun in my pocket, I get off sled and pull panel. If anything I might be reading warmer then it actually is.. Want to really keep it simple? How about stopping and pulling panel and holding hands on either clutch? Done it tons of times..Is that with a hand held temp guage

I’m @ 6-3 on my B/O 9-1 is next I guess after that what do I do is three a 9-2 that can be used
I have a epi purple that I’ve run and really like but the trend on here was lighter springs. What is the lowest number the purple can be twisted to??
I also have a cat white but have never run it with any success

I’ve had stretches of blowing belts and good runs in the 9700 miles I have on the sled it’s good as I’ve been in a long time on belts and I know I’m not quiet there
