2014 Viper
I bought a used 2014 viper in April the end of winter with 5 year warranty. The individual said he did have hot start issues but never got it back to the dealer. I just stopped in to the dealer and asked about the service bulletin for the ECU flash. He informed me that the bulletin has expired. I was speechless. Said I would have to pay for it.
Does anyone know it that sounds correct. Or should I try another dealer.

Same thing happened with the 2007 Phazer ECU replacement, sounds about right. I would wait for the EVO reflash if you have to pay anyways.
Also, barn of parts sells the cooling fan reverse kit that may help you avoid the hot start issue.

From everything I've been hearing you should stick with the original 2014 ecu anyways, many people had worse effects from the updated ecu than what they had with the original. I'd hold off and see what comes out in the next couple months.

I would have to disagree with that statement as my sled was a nightmare to try and hot start until the flash and since then has been flawless.

Rumor has it there maybe a new flash in the works. Mine has not been re flashed and I wont do a reflash until this one comes out if it does.

Some have gotten better..but some have also gotten worse, I'd hate to take the chance of one getting worse

I'd say hold on for a new flash if there's a possibility of it coming.
My 15 had the new flash and I still have issues with it.
If you have to pay I make sure it worked first.

I wouldn't get too excited just yet until the rumored flash to fix the flash comes out, but with a 5 year warranty and a widely known major issue there is no way Yamaha should be let off the hook on warranty.

Your dealer is lying to you. See last page under warrantee information. I would email this to them copying every email address I could find off their website.

Now why did you say that? Did yours run worse after reflash? I would be careful repeating stories if you were not there.
NOW, some dealers did not know computers that well and had some trouble operating the flashing computer. I had my dealer reboot his laptop as they had issues trying to flash one sled and then immediately my other sled. Had I not intervened they were going to put in VIN manually as the program would not recognize second sled......not sure what that would have led to but probably not good. Not sure Yamaha won't give you a hard time about warranty if they check and see you did not get flash, just a thought.
After the reflash both our sleds ran better and gained about 100 to 150 more rpm before rev limiter. Did some people have issues? I am sure they did but with over 15k Vipers out there how many?

Def a bad dealer. Even if out of "date" you would think they would provide this to you. Also yes a new flash is on the way and will be released to dealers when Yamaha has their service seminars or whatever sometime in oct I believe.

If I had it to do over again I wouldn't get the reflash. The hot start issues I had never left me stranded. The starter issues I've had since the reflash have.

Same question just on a different day. I too have not had the flash done for fear the starter issue. Using general consensus to help make a decision is a tough one when you look at the guys that are giving conflicting opinions. Stingray, studroes44...both respected here. Dealers all say to do it but how can they not say that?

I have no doubt at all that the 2015 update flash is the cause of all the starter issues. The random kickbacks will take teeth out at sooner than later. I would rather have a random long crank hot start that a random kickback that wrecks the starter. Both my sleds have the kickback now and one of them has taken the starter out.
If I was in your shoes I would wait to see how the 2016 update flash works out before having it done.
