While upgrading my skid shocks in my 15 LTX SE to Zbroz, I found a couple dry bearings in my wheels. Now I'm going through all of them. I'm attempting to pull the rear top bogie wheels where skid connects to the chassis in the rear. They are either on really tight or I'm doing something wrong. I removed everything from the shaft in-front of the wheel, used BP Blaster, puller (until the wheel started bending) and a rubber mallet to try and pull the wheel. No luck! What am I missing?
Bearing is slightly pressed on. At home I use a chisel and coming from backside I just hit the inner race. When off I clean up any nicks with a file and sandpaper. Use anti siezed when putting back on with a deep well socket just tapping on inner race again. Did this probably 6 times trying different springs. Never hurt a thing. Grease those bearings while off.
Some guys will remove snapring for bearing. Pull wheel off bearing and then use a puller on bearing. Works as long as they put snapring to inside. My way is better since it doesn't stress bearing and is quick.

I used an air hammer on the inner race of the bearing. Before I put the wheel back on I sanded some of the powder coating off the shaft to make future removal a bit less difficult.

Make sure you get to bare metal before you put back on, way easier.

Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to pull the skid the rest of the way out for better access and try the air hammer. That sucker is really on there!
Yes by all means pull it out and put it on bench. Things will all go much easier. Thanks for the info guys. I think I'm going to pull the skid the rest of the way out for better access and try the air hammer. That sucker is really on there!

Soooo....
I'm still struggling to remove the wheel and bearing. Air hammer didn't work and pounding on the inner race didn't work. I resorted to cutting the wheel off the bearing and tried the puller again. Still cant get it off! I think I'm going to try to cut the bearing off the shaft unless you guys have additional ideas... It should be hardened metal. If I cut most of the way through the inner race, I should be able to smack it with a hammer and shatter it, so is the theory...
My theory is that the bearing was dry from the factory and heated up causing the bearing to bake the powder coating. Now the powder coating is acting like glue. Fit and finish of this arctic cat is pissing me off. Not only are the bearings junk, the design in this area sucks and the factory didn't grease the F*****G thing. The bearing is shot after only 500 miles and 3 trips last winter. I'm not impressed... Good thing this sled has a good riding position and motor...

Take a piece of 2X4 lay again the axial and hit it with heavy hammer. It will drive axial out and wheel will pop off. Put axial vertical in vice and do the same. Wheel pop off and axel will drop to the floor.
When you re-install put the axial in a freezer for half hour. Install one wheel with washer in correct order.
Then put axial into shaft and drive the other wheel on. You will have to tilt the skid against your work bench to drive the other wheel on.
What I do grease axial and shaft real good before re-install, also polish the axial where the bushings go.

Are you able to remove the bearings for the bogie wheels on the viper to grease or replace them? I know on my nytro the bearings weren't removable.
Thanks

I still can't get the F@@@ing thing off! Just as I was about to cut it off, I remembered its a brand new machine with less 500 miles on it under warranty. Why am I messing with it when it should be Yamaha's problem. I ordered the wheel already, called up my dealer and explained the situation. He said bring it in with the wheel, don't bother putting the wheel back on the bearing. He will take care if it. I gotta admit, I have a great dealer! Can't be happier with those guys.
I'm still amazed that a puller can't get that bearing off. There is something wrong with that!

I took mine off today. used a 4" nail. Cut it flat on end and used it as a punch to hit the inner race and they came off easy. Never did any damage to bearing or shaft.
Greased all the wheel bearings on the skid. Mine has 13 wheels, so 13 bearing I had to do. Lot of work But worth it.

I like tools that make life easier. This is what your dealer uses.
I have done it the same way mentioned by others here. After I got this tool, I wondered why I didn't do it sooner.

Has anyone removed the upper arm of the scissor with the high rollers and placed it in a shop press with a couple of 1/2" plates sandwiching and supporting the wheel as you push it off the shaft?
That tool is great but is several hundred dollars
Ms
