How heavy are Yamaha 4 strokes really?

I'm considering a viper mtx and yeah I know it's a 600lb sled. This area has very limited groomed trails so mostly off trail riding. Can't find an XTX. Last sled was an 800 summit XP.

The thing I love most about the summit was how easy the front end came up and stayed up in deep snow. And how easy it was to roll into a corner.

Will a viper feel like a pig?

Short answer for that comparison, yes. You are comparing it to a roughly 400lb sled. Not only 200lb less, but where it's located. The front half including the engine will be considerably heavier feeling than any Ski-Doo mountain sled.

It will still be quite capable, and a person will enjoy it. But it is one of the places where weight will be noticed. Now if you are ripping trails around Brainerd and the Pillsbury or Paul Bunyan state Forest etc, you will wish you had the XTX or LTX for the wider stance. Weight will be a non issue on the trails.

Little confused as you list your location as Brainerd, but say there is limited groomed trails. BLA is some of the best trail riding in the state when there's snow for the clubs to groom. Yamaha mountain sled is significantly heavier than any of the 2 stroke based sleds of similar era. As Biff said, it's also where/how the weight is distributed. We've been riding 4 stroke mtn/crossovers in the BLA for years now. on the trails they are great, playing off the trail they are still great but its different. Lines and throttle control are important. Momentum is important. Wife's mcx turbo phazer is a lot of fun around here.

My 2011 Apex XTX is a tank, but it pulls like a freight train.

The viper feels night and day lighter then the apex mainly due to suspension design. They are heavy and you have to manhandle it. I don't mind that but if you can't handle the weight don't try it. I own a BTX winder and it gets up on the snow easy and doesn't get stuck but trying to turn in the deep wears me out..but I'm old lol

now that's funny. I can't lift even a small package let alone any snowmobile of any size. I carry tools on the machine for that. Winch,ropes,bungee and a few others.

All my buddies give me crap for riding a 4 stroke but in all honesty I love my turbo viper. I ride off trail 95% of the time and I still get stuck here and there but its a part of the game. I've rode with a few guys on here off trail last year(also turbo vipers) and they can ride circles around me

It's a personal preference imo

I might get kick back crap but man Hard to swallow 2 stroke smoke on the trails now. Especially when they go by me in packs.

The 4 strokes are not as big a weight penalty over some two strokes as most people think!
