How long will you wait?

This is totally unacceptable. You commit to spending nearly 12,000 back in April with a deposit and Yamaha can't deliver a sled in a timely matter. No letter, no apology , no real explanation. Still waiting on my red LTX SE. There are unsold sleds sitting at dealers and sold committed sleds that are no where to be found. If it wasn't for my dealer, whom I like, I would be ready to bail. At this point , I would be hard pressed to consider spring ordering a Yamaha, if at all again.

Did Yamaha or your dealer promise you a specific delivery date?

Part of being an early adopter is RISK. Wen you snow-checked an unknown (but exiting) product you took some risk and put your money down without some specific promises like delivery date or even how the sled will perform once received.

Sometimes being a pioneer is a frustrating experience and not everyone is "wired" to play that role. I understand why people are frustrated but I feel it comes with the territory of being an early adopter. Perhaps thinking more big picture would help. In the big picture you will have your sled soon and will hopefully enjoy years of use in the future. A couple weeks beyond when you "assumed" you would have it is minuscule in the big picture.

Of course I can only write this because I already have my Viper :jump:

Yes you have yours and the rest of us don't have any answers to our concerns.

What concerns? If Yamaha promised you a delivery date for a sled then you have some recourse to seek compensation.. or your deposit back at the very least. To my knowledge no such promises were made.

So far all I've read is a bunch of conjecture (aside from the crate issue) about "possible" reasons for why the Red/Black model is supposedly taking longer than the others to arrive. If they were built last then it stands to reason that they would be the last to ship does it not?

Yamaha promised no one a delivery date and that's part of the gig when you snow check is it not?

I would think people who snow-checked a new model built by a different manufacturer would have a little more patience.

Again, when you make the decision to be an early adopter for something new there are certain things you give up. You are a pioneer (in marketing terms). Note everyone is cut out to be a pioneer and that's ok too.

I think we all have our personal levels of patience when it comes to delays and no one will fault you if you decide to jump from the early adopter ship and just go get something else. This process isn't for everyone!

This is my 4th snow-checked Yamaha...all 4 were/are a first year model. The latest I ever picked up a snow-checked sled was October 31st. I will admit I am very anxious and running out of patience but I would agree with you, Yamaha doesn't owe you, me or anyone else that doesn't have a Viper yet, anything except the actual sled, a 3-year warranty, the gift package and the financing promised at the time of snow checking. All I would like is an ETA from my dealer or from Yamaha...I don't think that is too much to ask. :o|

I wasn't promised anything in Writing but when my dealer said it should be here by Halloween and its almost thanksgiving then I have an issue. I take a mans word for bank until proven otherwise. As of now there's not much faith left in this for me.

None of which were built by another OEM.

I will agree that the customer service end of this could be better. Early adopters hate being ignored, after all part of the attention we get from having the latest and greatest is part of what drives us.

Understood. I wish more dealers would take the "Under-Promise and Over-Deliver" mentality. I would blame your dealer in this instance and not their supplier as I can assure you that no such promises were made to your dealer.

I've been part of joint venture builds on vehicles more complex than our Vipers. We were also on the receiving end of the design and all I can say is OMG what a nightmare!

Spent 11 Months in another state delivering first vehicles of 8 different variants on the base chassis. Nearly killed me - No BS.

Averaged 100 hours a week and upto 127 hrs in one week. 7 months with 2.5 hours of sleep per night and never set the alarm.

So having been there I have a great amount of compassion for the engineering and product assurance staff who had to pull this off. Remember that because of the part number changes that many parts had to be removed from the assembly line and restocked with Yamaha part numbers. In addition, I suspect that AC was late in turning their Mfg. Facility over to Yamaha. So many complexities in this arrangement both hardware and political, especially with parent companies with different cultures...

You were driving the roads under that rest plan?!? Get 'er done!

I think your point further illustrates why people should be patient here. Frankly, I'm surprised I got mine as quickly as I did since I believe the vast majority of pre orders were SE models. It would be interesting to learn how they prioritized production.

It shouldn't really matter how they prioritized production since they have all been done and sitting in a warehouse in Chicago for two weeks now. Of course that is all subject to info I got off here.

I'm not saying it mattered just that I'd be interested in learning how they decided which models to build and ship first.

Seeing all these posts is making me reconsider selling my sled. I really don't want to be sledless this winter.

Does anyone have any confirmed info? I keep hearing all the vipers are built already. If so were are they hiding them? Lol

I'm not selling mine !!

Talked to my dealer at length today. My red X-TX SE is at the warehouse in Chicago and ready to be shipped. Seems dumb that it went that way when I'm only about 200 miles north of Thief River Falls but what the hell. Should be here by middle of next week. She talked at length about the late delivery date stating that normally the snowchecks arrive in September and are out the door by October. Not the case this year. My dealer is a small family dealership. They have 15 snowchecks.....a record number for them. She says it's clear Yamaha didn't gauge the interest there would be in these machines and there simply is not enough. Those who snowchecked will get their machines but don't expect to see too many on showroom floors. Those that are in showrooms are likely from people who decided not to take delivery and forfieted the $500.00. They have to be paid and delivered to their customers by Nov. 30th or the snowcheck incentives go away.

She also says they are having difficulty getting Yamaha to ship the accessories. Many accessories are still on back order and even if my sled was here tomorrow she couldn't mount the skid plates cuz she doesn't have them. There are no parts manuals or service manuals available yet. She couldn't replace a headlight even if she wanted to cuz there are no part numbers published yet.

Having said all this, I still think that this will be a great product. Are we getting off the ground on the right foot.......I think not.........but I still have patience. I know the guys that want to mod will lose some time but if you give up your snowcheck you're gonna buy another machine that you didn't want in the first place just because it's delivered a few weeks or a month later than you expected. You won't be happy then and wishing you had waited for your Viper.

Try to be patient. Mine is going to show up at my dealership right when I'm out of town on a business trip. It figures !!! Remember the contract for snowchecks states no later than a November 30th delivery date.

In the end I'm banking on the fact it will all be good !!

P.S. My dealer is so pissed at Yamaha right now she could spit !! Her financing on other items like outboard motors, quads, etc. is be affected by this late delivery.

I don't know about limited dealer availability ... after the snow checks come in. But I can tell you guys that I talked to a dealer-owner at the unveiling in Mpls who told me Yamaha was insisting that dealers place their orders (not snow checks) for these sleds before the conclusion of the dealer meeting. He was not too happy about it, as he too was seeing the Viper for the first time (same as the general public) and didn't really have any other info on which to gauge interest in the sled. Not sure what he, or any other dealers, ended up ordering as dealer inventory, but those that did also took a pretty big risk, and I'll bet they're just as upset as those who snow checked.

As someone who didn't snow check, it's disappointing to think that dealer supply might be limited. But not being personally invested I feel I can look at this a little more objectively and I would have to agree with WOT-75 ... just try to be a little more patient. After all, most of us do not have snow to ride (and it may be a while before we do). Even if you have accessories and other mods to install, I think there will be time to get it done before the snow flies.

I look forward to seeing some of you guys out on the trails this year. ;)!

I wonder if the snow checked machines are not delivered to people by the 30th if they will no loose the incentives but be givin a little bit of a discount or maybe a credit for some parts?
If my machine doesn't arrive before the 30th I think I would be asking.....
