Pinnin' it!
In northern Ontario they were measuring the outlet and if it was not stock they would escort you to the nearest road and make you load it on a tow truck. You were done lol.
Never heard of this and ride on northern Ontario often.

Really idiotic IMO to be checking turbo sleds that are not loud. The "cans" on 2 strokes are the noise makers that need to be changed, the turbos dont sound loud at all with specific 2.5" mufflers. Especially the replicas or stock modded.
I ran my stock modded in Qc, got pulled over two times for in depth registration stops, and never did they even think my sled was loud. Even showed one cop the muffler and he said it sounded quieter then many sleds, so had no issue with my 2.5 modded outlet.
I feel for guys who get yanked and measured....that sure sucks for all of us.
Reducing the 2.5" outlet, even if its just the outlet defeats the entire breathing purpose. Might as well just stick to stock muffler then.

I agree, but i'm sure the 2-smoke boys complained they were being picked on while the Rich Elitist 4-stroke Silver Spoon guys are getting away with "murder".
They probably accused the State of being Racist or Sexist or Noiseist then said they put out LESS emissions so the 4-strokers are the REAL problem.
Then the State got tired of the tree huggers bitchin' and the 2-smokers bitchin' even more, so they made a law for all.
Fortunately for us we can get CRAZY power without even changing our muffler.

I've heard stories about people that carry tape measures in their pockets. I live in Maine and they should be carrying a decibel meter but they want to hide behind the emissions crap. Same smart ones that can't put a vent on a gas can because fumes can hurt environment while ignoring most people dump gas all over the place trying use them.

thank you all for your input and ideas.... I may just ride it and worry about it when I get stopped. I think the law on modified exhaust is interpreted the wrong way by the wardens. if its not loud then they should leave us alone, imo

I agree they should go by decibels if anything. Problem is they just made it universal here in Maine and say no modifications at all, I think there playing the emissions card for back up and tampering with a emission device. They got a la here too that you can't have snorkels on your atv utv. Theory is if you have them your going to ride in water, I said oh that makes sense I bought a 6 pack grocery shopping so you want to arrest me now for DUI. That's what happens when people who have no clue what there doing make laws.

No kidding!! The 2 smoker brap riders make so much more noise it's ridiculous!
On another note.......No offense to the Harley riders but I have always felt the cops leave them alone and I have heard some really loud ones. I always say..."gee if my car or truck made that much noise would they leave me alone too"....?

I just read the laws in Maine and under the "No Modifications" section it states that the modification would still be held to the allowed decibel rule. So what am I missing .... You can't modify your exhaust if it falls outside the allowed decibel noise level. I read nowhere in the laws that state " No Modifications " period. Again it's all about interpretation. My hurricane trail muffler is not loud at all and if I had to guess it's within the allowed decibel range. I don't want to settle for the stock muffler tunes for I love the ones I have now and the incredible power they provide instantly.

If we have to give up our performance mufflers on our 4 strokes to get rid of the horrible sound of two stroke TWIN cylinder 'Braaaap" riders....I am all for it! These are the riders that are causing trail closures ect and its not like there are many triple or four cylinder sleds with pipes out there anymore....at least they sounded good.
The trouble with the Braaap riders is they never hold them wide open long enough for their engines to melt down....what a shame!

"Operate a snowmobile with an exhaust system that has been modified in a manner that amplifies or otherwise increases total noise emission above that of the snowmobile as originally constructed, regardless of the date of manufacture"
That's the Maine law that I find. I don't know about others but I've never had any luck with a pissing match and law enforcement, the give ticket based on there interpenetration of law then you get to go to court and plead your case. I guess what it comes down to is what your willing to deal with or pay for. I agree with you that should be allowed but not willing to deal with law or pay a fine.
