Hurricane & TD Gap Flashers- Need to know!!

Someday I will own a sidewinder and will have this problem but until this day happens I'd like to share with you what I've done to to bypass this problem with my boat.
So there I was got a new Gps deepfinder. Installed it everything was working the way it should. Fished four different times weeks apart.
Time passed two to three weeks before I got out again. No I didn't read ALL the directions. It worked wonderful and I was happy why would I, but wait.
Deepfinder was shut off and.. GPS was still searching for a single.
Went to start boat at landing was unaware battery was completely dead. At first I didn't no why and found the problem.
Problem was deepfinder searching for a single.
Installed battery disconnect problem solved.
Aftermarket battery disconnect???

Something to think about.

What Steve said 4 posts back. Sorry just read that

Its just as easy to unplug the flasher. Flasher is secured in place with Velcro and I have mine mounted low enough I can reach up underneath the foot hold and unplug it.

This happened to me as well. I thought after the update it no longer had a draw so didn't charge it over the summer. Went to start mine last week and dead. Optimate couldn't bring it back either.

So sounds like you guys with the flashers are leaving them on and riding with them plugged in, are they meant to take that kind of abuse? I just got mine and use it to flash but wasnt planning to leave it connected.

If you want to use the jukebox or map button feature it has to be plugged in.

Kind of a waste if that’s all you’re going to use it for...I mean it’s pretty expensive..and if you have it connected it can be of so much more service to you, and open up a whole lot more potential/possibilities...

I just keep it in my jacket normally. I was playing with it at home at the end of the season and forgot to unplug it though. Not interested in data logging. Thats what Bens testing if for. I just want to ride the damn thing. I have it with me in case I get some really bad fuel or someone else needs to ride my sled and isn't experienced. I've never had to deal with either and don't feel the need to be switching maps ever. I just keep it on Max Spool 16 SM. Being able to get the updates and not have to send my ECM off was worth the price to me. Also, in the future when I have money for a muffler and other goodies I will be able to switch setups really easy.

While I don't see myself using any type of data logging(I too just want to ride this thing and not think about logging or any of that stuff etc etc...), I do like the idea of being able to switch tunes on the fly(Flash to Pass) so easily if I so desire; that option I do see myself using. But that's the only reason I'm getting the Flasher for. But I do realize that everybody feels differently about their Sleds and will use things differently than others....the versatility is the nice part-you use it the way you Want!!

Love my flasher, Data-logging, and flash to pass button....Makes these sleds just that much more fun to mess around with. The tech GAP has brought to the game has made this entire turbo ownership far more interesting then the old SUK ever was.

The draw on these flashers is not very much, I never had issues during then winter.....It seems like it just becomes an issue when leaving it connected all summer. I did not have the issues is sled gets plugged into tender all summer. But to unplug the flasher for summer or maybe 2 or 3 weeks if not being rode is simple enough.

Data-logging is something that will tell you a ton of info about your runs....But not needed full time. It is awesome to do your initial setup though.

Hi Guys

Sorry for the delay, it is high season already here... can't wait for snow to arrive!

As discussed in this thread, in winter, one can leave the flasher connected unless the sled is not used frequently. It shall, however, be disconnected if not used for 2 weeks+ or during the off season.

There are 2 scenarios:

-GAP Flasher connected at the diagnostic port besides the chaincase. This one is a direct 12V feed. We recommend disconnecting the flasher as per previously mentioned.
-GAP Flasher connected on the Anti-Lag harness. This one allowed usage of switched 12V present on the instrument cluster harness. Flasher can be left connected permanently.

Yamaha recommends disconnecting the battery during the off season which would also prevent drainage.

Datalogging is indeed quite helpful to correctly set a sled, especially clutching and also to proceed with minor tweaks. It's hard to live without it once you've had a taste... Of course it does lots of other functions but that's a whole other story.

Cheers

Did you document the flash to pass button install?

Thanks
Jack

I just received my flasher today!
Is the a guide/manual on how to use it anywhere here!
Does the flasher itself record the data!
Once back from a trip/run can the. info be downloaded on a pc to view.
What other features are available with the flasher?
