I'm looking at 2009 Apex with Stage 1 MPI supercharger.

Over 7,000 miles.. no idea who did the install.. Owner says it work well.

The price seems fair... Anything specific I should look for in regards to the supercharger?

I just don't want to get hit with a costly repair..

I bought a Phazer with 276 miles on the sled, thought I was safe. But, they ran it with a screen instead of a proper air filter and ice went into the impeller and ruined the supercharger impeller. Only indication was a vibration I thought might be normal. Now I am told the ROTREX impeller is not replaceable and I have to buy a $1500.00 supercharger to fix.

Have a shop check it out closely.

That is what sucks most about rotrex SC.....

Each and every single blower related problem is always COSTLY... ALWAYS!!!! this unit is not serviceable, nor do they repair them....

Have a rattle noise in blower? solution purchase new blower $$$

Bad bearing in blower? solution purchase new blower $$$

Impeller damage in blower? solution purchase new blower $$$

Turbos are a LOT less expensive to repair when these same things occur.

Sorry... I had to ventilate a little about all my past rotrex problems and I though you might want to know this before making the purchase!

I have four years on my blower and it has never had an issue. I bought it used, so who knows how many years it was run before that.

I think if only ran on trail (and not raced to its limit) the blower it pretty reliable.

but whan we try to race them to their limit, there are some things (costly) that will happen soon or late.

From my experience the issues aren't with the blowers systems themselves. Any issues I had on past sleds would be with the build of the engine or fuel. You get a quality builder building a sled like an Ulmer, OSP, H&H.....ETC That set the sled up for what it's intended use is for, then it will last a long time. Drag build for a drag sled, a trail build for a trail sled. Never maxing it out, to abuse the motor or the blower system for a trail sled. Like my NYtro, it is set up for pump fuel with the right controllers, timing, cooling, gauges etc. All to watch and ride her safe, but fun.

Trying to get most out of a rotrex blower can prove costly... I wonder how do I know this??!!!

Doing same thing with a turbo might damage turbo as well, but much less costly a repair!

Check for alignment of the drive and driven sprockets, out of alignment is not good and will be costly. Check for runout at both sprockets, if any at all, the sprockets may be damaged, if left unchecked it will be costly. Check oil Level in the SC system and condition on the SC belt. Test ride the sled to get a feel of the Power, compared to Stock. No significant increase in boost over Stock.... walk away.

runout on pulley is usually uneven tightening procedure of the taper locks... this happened to me, remove and re-install sprocket and tight evenly both sides ot taperlock at same time, pulley should then be strait.. if not, then... there is another problem..

Dipstick is part of the cap on the resevoir for the blower oil up at front of sled.

Don't worry if a little low as long as you can see some on the stick it is ok .

Smell it and make sure it does not smell burnt.

MPI says the SC oil should be changed annually. What was said earlier is correct, if it fails they are expensive to replace. Saying that, I have a used Stage 1 blower on the shelf for sale if anyone is interested. ;)!
