Is 1.6" to much depth for trail

2016 Phazer.... plus a couple of 2016 Polaris 800's
Im tossing between LTXSE and XTXSE
Concern is two differences are track length and lug height.
Is the 1.6" to deep for trail riding.... I ride OFSC trails mostly Muskoka 70 on trail and very quickly.
Will the track be ok for breaking, cooling, ?????
 

I ride up around Kearney, sprucedale area. My buddy's run 1.6s on there sleds and have never had any problems. (Even the overheating prone ski doos) I think if only on the trail the 1.25 might suit you better.

2 different skids between the two machines as well 141 being uncoupled and the 137 being coupled.
 
I've run a 1 3/4 Back Country on my Nytro for years. Never had a real issue.
 
I run 2 inch lugs on my 144 apex with no problems. If you're weary of burning up slides then use ice scratchers or hit the sides of the trails to get some snow on them. When I had my vmax 136 it had 2 inch and that did very well too. I ride the trails until I find a good spot to play around in.
 
I have run one on a Viper XTX for 4600 miles and it still had the original slides on it but I did have ice scratchers when the snow was marginal.
 
I have 2 turbo XTX's with over 6000 miles between them and all of that has been on the same 1.6" track (switched form the 14 to the 15). When I changed the hyfax on the 14 it did not need to be changed and that was at about 3500 miles. There is no heat issues even in low snow. there is no vibration and it hooks up like no other track I have ridden.

I run a 1.6cobra on trail. no issues. It has great trail manners. Brakes well......very happy.
 
the single ply 1.6 cobra measures a little over 1.4 to the meat of the lug - it has little nubs on each lug that are about 1/8 " long but its more like a 1.45 .
 
I am still bouncing between the 1.5 Ripsaw2 and the 1.6 Ice cobra. I ride 95% trails but want extra bite in loose snow. I also want to get away from studs.............

Honestly don't know what you'd be giving up, one for the other. Other than 1.6 is prestudded. Which is really cool.

1.6 is made to move snow better in an off trail situation, I would think.

I hear the rip II likes to get a little loose in hard corners. Which I like.

1 is a 1 ply and the other is a 2 ply. After speaking with a Camso rep he claimed the ripsaw would be a better track with 190 horsepower vs. the cobra. The ripsaw is stiffer and is 2 ply so it is tougher. But then I see the cobra on Sidewinders and I think why not? It is the built in studs that have me wanting the cobra, I have owned 4 ice rippers/ice attacks in the past with great results. I wish they made a ripsaw2 with studs...........
 
That 1.6 Cobra is crap......as a matter of fact THE Cobra is crap.......too softa lug, too flexible for on trail use on any sled with a good amount of power.....better suited for off trail.....

As far as too big....I used to run a 1.75 Challenger with 144 studs.....excellent on trail and took huge amounts of abuse and never spit a stud or lost a chunk of lug.........did however notice a big increase in top speeds when I cut it down to a 1.375 and only went up one tooth on top.....................best before 94mph.....best after 112mph.......thats an 18mph increase and IMO is the only down side to running a bigger lug....cooling was never an issue, neither was lubrication.......but then again I was running real studs not those things they call studs that come in the pre-studded tracks......
 
Is 1.6 too much for trails? No, Im running a 1.75 this year with no concerns.

Is the Cobra a good trail track? IMO no. The lugs are too soft. I had one on my XTX Viper and it had excellent grip for the first 500 miles, then you could tell the lugs were becoming more flexible and wouldn't hook up as good.
