First...... I apologize for offending Feddie. Freddie is a stand up guy that has helped a lot of Yamaha guys whenever they needed him. No question.! You just can't count the number of posts he's put out there trying to help everyone improve the performance of their RX-1. This is his living and there is no way I want to interfer with his business. I have absolutely nothing to gain by bashing the ECP kits. In fact, when this whole thing started, I really wasn't bashing, but asking for proof that the performance was real. That's all! I was as ready as the next guy to cough up the $$ for the kit, but was tired of the aftermarket claims of grandios performance to just be let down by so so performance gains. Anyone that's been in snowmobiles for years knows what I'm talking about. This all started when I simply asked for TRUE performance data rather than rhetoric like "it rocks" or "this thing flys". Dyno numbers help, but, like all sledders know, you must get the power to the track or it's not worth much.
Dave Burnham's sled ran great, no question for 660' and everyone there knows why. He wouldn't run from even a small roll .....hummmm, why?? Top end?!?!?! It had nothing to do with his extensive stud set up?!?!?!?! No excuses, he was hot out of the hole!! But why are we talking about a sled that was set up by a well known racer vs .......
Look....I'm very sorry for opening this can of worms. I will not comment further on this issue.
It's just not worth getting everyone upset over this.
Again, I'm very very sorry!
ECP kits must work. Too many of you out there atest to that.

Almost RX-1 said:One thing that has me a little unsure if I should go with the kit is - why doesn't it increase top speed like it does acceleration? Why do some seem to actually loose top speed (regardless of whether the clutching is set up properly or not, it shouldn't loose top speed when making more power)?
What's going on with the power falling off (at least back to stock) at top speed?
Hopefully Freddy or someone can figure it out next season and give these sleds even more of a boost in performance. Steve
I am about worn out on this topic guys. I don't mind telling you that I have about been buldgeoned to death by this. I have personally been on sleds with my air kits on that run on top end like crazy. I have reports back from speed runners that have had their sleds radared at 125 - 128 MPH. These are admittedly setup for radar running with speed tracks and all.
I am going to say this one more time and this is pretty much it fellas...There are too many variables to control and police when talking on the internet. This forum is a great way to communicate but it is not like having a sled in front of you to determine what is going on in real life. Suspension settings, clutch tuneups, engine condition, even what oil you use versus another all factor into the equation.
It takes 100 pennies to make a dollar. If you cannot figure this statement out, please do not get on this forum and complain about anything you use on your sled regardless of who sold it or what it is.
Otis, I do understand that the end users have indeed been stung in the past with products that simply do not work. That statement unfortunately is true and I could understand why folks are reluctant. No one wants to here that an Amana refrigerator is the best from the salesman...they want to hear this from their friend who owns one. Problem is with these air kits is that there is wayyyyyy too much data to back up my claims about increased performance. And if anyone cares to challenge this, I would be happy to prove it to anyone who needs to be convinced. I am not a gambling man by nature but I would easily even wager a bet of epic proportions that what I say is the absolute truth.
Here is how it will work...bring your sled to ECP, we dyno it stock together with you present. If it dyno's as a stocker should, we then install the Air Kit, if it doesn't improve as I state it will, you get your sled returned back to stock as it was when it arrived and verified power-wise on the dyno. If it does indeed improve the way I say, you pay me double my going rate for all that I performed for you.
Any takers that care to lose some money? I hate it that I have to state it like this but I feel like a cat being cornered.

Yo, Freddie, is there some way to re issue your posts like the very first "Dyno day" or the "loss of top speed, some suggestions" ??? Alot of these guys were not around for those posts and I think if they read about the dyno readings it might shut up the skeptics-----Cubby

First of all , THANKS FREDDIE FOR HELPING THOSE OF US THAT WANT HELP AND ARN'T AFRAID OF SPENDING A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY TO GET WHAT WE WANT. Wish I lived closer so I could of taken you up on the dyno days that you did for FREE to help develop your kits (maybe some people don't know that). Personally you spent extra phone time with me and some other mtn. riders to get the proper jetting and springs in our machines as the kit was designed at sea level. Not everyone is just interested in haveing the fastest sled but one we try to get the best overall performance out of. I think you have done a great job on your product and have been more than willing to listen to us on an open format to make your product better. Hope you don't let the between season blues of a few get you down, looking forward to more ideas from the ECP crew.

8)"HI" This is NEED SNOW. I started this post. It's like...Cubby's RX-1... said, Im new to this 4-stroke stuff. In the last 3 years I havent paid any attention to the 4-stroke's. I "NEVER" dreamed I would buy a 4-stroke until I was like 70 years old. But after a lot of research I went with a 05 RX-1. I did not make this decision lightly. I will be asking a lot of questions. When my new sled comes in I will probably ask more. I appreciate all of you trying to help me understand 4-stroke's. But at this point I think the "ECP KIT" "IS" for real...Gary.

I get a load of e-mails asking why some people lose top end with certain clutching & mods. There is a ton of variables like temperature, barometric pressure, snow conditions, etc. 99% of the time it is one of these factors that will hamper top speed.

05rxwarrior- I use a product called Extreem. You can find it at any harley shop in a Drag Specialties catalog. The "fat book" as the catalog is called, has it listed near the back of the book in the polish and waxes section. Extreem comes in a black plastic container with red and yellow letters on it. -------Cubby

Cubby, I will pick up this product on your recommendation. What is your method of applying the polish? Is it by hand or do you use a buffer? What much work or effort is involved?

Well Boston RX-1, You asked for it! I use different methods for different parts on the sled, like the running boards I just used the Extreem on them. I get a large wad of pink stuff (trust me you will know what I mean when you get the Exreem) and rub it on by hand. It also helps to use your hands to rub it into the metal because your skin acts like 4000 grit sandpaper and works the dirt out of the metal. Do each board about 5 times and each time you do it you will see them getting better and better.
On the front spindles which are sand cast I first sanded the part smooth, starting with a rough grit like 150 or 200 and finish with like 2000 grit. Sometimes I also use a buffing wheel on my drill with some rouge to get the part smooth enough to start using the Extreem. They sell a metal polishing kit at Sears with wheels, rouge and everything you will need.
Also remember that anything you see on my sled that is steel is chromed, not polished. Like the front 4 control arms and alot of smaller pieces in the rear skid. As for the rails which were smoother than the spindles but rougher than the running boards, I sanded them with 2000 grit and then used the polishing wheel on them, then the Extreem.
And also remember that I love my garage and enjoy spending time in it. I have 1100 sq. ft. with heat, A/C, DVD suround sound, TV, and a large frig stocked with beer. I guess what I am trying to say is all this polishing you are about to do is very hard work and very time consuming, but the rewards (like all youse guys admiring it) and the way the sled came out is all worth it.---Cubby

Sorry Bob.
I made a promise to S.T. and the entire T.Y. forum that I wouldn't go there after my last post, and I won't.

Otis...it's cool if you want to talk about it. I have no problem in comparing products. For instance, when I tested the Raptor filters against my filters...if the Raptor filters worked better, I would have stated so and began selling those.
The TPI valves will not produce the power gains that my filters do anyway. But, for those on perhaps too serious of a budget they may be the way to go.
Go ahead and talk about it if you desire. Or, if you feel better do it through e-mail or PM.

Christ.....................
4 months later we are still debating this topic............
The filters work for F
sack!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have no reason to lie and will bring the following sled owners to this forum if need be:
- '01 SRX => Geared, piped, reeds, filter kit, clutched, heads cut....reeled him in inside 600'....no contest after that.
- MY stock '01 SRX => NO CONTEST...IT WAS ACTUALLY COMICAL
- '95 VMAX 4 => Piped, clutched, filter kit.........no contest period
- '95 VMAX 4 Hauck 880 => NO CONTEST
- '03 REV 800 HO => Now that's funny!
And I have no reason to believe that an F7 would not suffer the same fate!
(I know that is not a complete sentence LB
