Is your secondary spring set right on a Hurricane Turbo?

Did you have twist at 3-3 or strait down?
 

I have Dave's kit, I set it at 6-1 rather than the 3-3. I went. No torsional twist at 3-3. At 6-1 I had more twist and very close to the 3-3 setting. Ran it a few times and seems good. We have run out of good snow here so will play more once we get more. Managed 119 mph on top end. Just hitting rev limiter when I hammer hard on the throttle in loose condition. Just need to play with a little weight. Changed my gearing from 2.08 ratio to 1.952.
 
I changed my spring to a Dalton red at 6-1 wrap.
 
My spring from Hurricane secondary is a purple spring. I saw the Ulmer video on helix settings, makes sense if you are using Yamaha secondary springs. The purple spring has different spring settings. I compared the purple and the Yamaha springs, the spring ends are different starting points which makes sense. The purple is designed for straight pressure and the Yamaha is torsional. I know where everyone is going. Our button clutches need torsion to make them work better.
 
Mitch. We picked up two of Daves turbos and his complete clutching kit. Only have a 300 k's on it, so the entire setup is still tight. However, even tho now consistently turning 8890 rpm, still only seeing 100 mph. Want to put another 700 k's on it then will work on top end. Am still adjusting suspension, but getting really close to where I want it to be for trail riding. Backed off front skid preload entirely and dropped front mains to 65lbs. Major improvement. Now reducing rear skid rebound to 6 and dropping compression to 12 on front skid shock. Bumped up rear spring to medium. Will try tomorrow. What sled are you running? We are on 1.7 Blue/White RTX LE's (Sno cross) and have changed stock gearing on the Blue/White from 21/49 back to 24/50 (Blue/Orange base).
 
I am running a 2014 xtx with got a couple hundred kilometres this weekend pulls hard but feel I'm not getting the launch I was expecting but snow conditions affect performance so much need more seat time.
 
I fooled around today with my secondary spring. I was running a Dalton red wound to 6-2 and although it went well above 40mph the mid range throttle response was a little sluggish. I don't see how anyone is running a stock secondary spring on a turbo Viper and getting ANY throttle response on the trail.
I then installed the purple spring from Hurricane and tried 6-1 with just a little twist--not the normal twist that is required with these torsional springs but like what has been described here. The secondary slipped badly, it was like riding a slingshot waiting for the clutch to stop slipping. I am now back to 0-1 with the correct amount of twist. Good throttle response and pulls hard. I am starting to see some inconsistencies in RPM depending on belt heat. A cold belt will tap the limiter sometimes but after it warms up I see 8600-9000 rpm's. I might try an 8DN to see if my RPM's stabilize.
I guess the lesson is don't try to use these torsion springs like a compression spring, they need the proper amount of twist to work correctly.
 
I setup up my secondary the same way. Like you said good throttle response and pulls very hard. I'm using the ultramax XS belt (8JP replacement) and I'm also hitting the limiter, I spoke to Dave about this and he is saying to add some washers to my primary.
 
I am running different primary weights. DF70 Draggin Flies with 2.2 grams in the heel. Total weight 74.00 grams. I am going to change belts before adding any tip weight
 
I have no idea what weight I have in my primary. All I know its Dave's clutch kit. I should know I guess. LOL

With the gearing change you did, how is it in the loose snow with the 1.7 inch truck I've tried some
Other gearing and
I couldn't keep the revs up
So went back to the stock setup. Thanx

i completely exploded my belt today, has about 1500 miles on it. i have a few friends that throw them purple spings in gardage and run yamaha white in the rear with a 8fa helix and running alot lighter in primary and clutches run cold and dont hit limiter. i drove his 370 kit and it rips hard with only 68 grams weight. what destroys a belt in bits like mine did today ? was its making to much heat? was the only pull that was done for maybe 500 feet all day and exploded bad wrapped up in secondary to. try putting that purple spring on in the field as had to take aprt to get all the pieces out of the secondary
 
It would interesting to find out those clutch set ups in the 190 kits. I am still running the purple spring in the secondary with dragon flies set at 80 grams of weight. I love the draggin flies, nothing pulls harder, but they wear out fast on these 3 cylinders. I also have another primary set up with Dave recommendations and it goes almost as well as the flies. I would like to try a secondary set up that dosent use such a stiff spring but have yet to find one that works as well
