Hello everyone, im a new member and no expert on snow mobile.

I have few question about the sled that I just picked up with literally 3 miles on it, according to the last owner they never used the sled, to make it short it was parked for 5 years. Besides the checking the battery, what else do i need to check before starting the motor?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

change the oil. and try and get someone to prime the oil to the motor ,,,spray wd40 in the spark plug holes and put antiseize on the plug threads , hope they are not rusted in place

:welc: Where are you going to be riding?
Not related to the engine, but it would be good to grease the suspension.
Did you get a good deal?

With only 3 miles it is doubtful that any updates have been done on the '07 so you might want to check that with a dealer. Will you get to try it out this year?

Thanks Bomba, its mainly for ice fishing.. im not sure if its a good deal, I got it for 6K..thats what im planning too, bring it to the dealer instead of DIY...cheers!

thats a lot of money for 07 but no miles makes it worth afew bucks more .. here that would be 4000 max. i looked at 2010 for 5000 with 1000km.

Most 07 Phazers usually go for $4000, VL's and MP's around $4500 depending on condition and mileage. I get daily search results from Kijiji for Ontario and Quebec for anything related to all three. I got mine for $7500 in late 09 with only 800Km.

The only update you won't be able to get free is the cold weather start update. Not a biggie unless you regularly ride below -25C. There are a couple of recalls that must be done related to the steering (free).

This is what I'd do to it before firing it up and riding:
- drain the gas and refill with fresh gas
- change the oil but not the filter since it will have to be replaced after break-in anyway
- charge the battery using a small charger (1~2A battery tender type)
- change the chaincase oil
- grease the suspension
- check all the wheels to be sure none of the bearings have seized solid
- check the track for any dry rotting
- check for any mouse damage such as chewed wiring and nests in the air box and exhaust
- I would also pop off the seals of the jackshaft and driveshaft bearings and check for rust and add more grease
- wouldn't be a bad idea to drain and replace the coolant since it's 6 years old

My concern with the oils is condensation, which is why I would only replace the oil, not the filter. If there wasn't much fuel in the tank, you could get away with just filling it with fresh fuel. Some Seafoam wouldn't be a bad idea in case the injectors might be a bit sticky.

Look at it this way you got a brand new VL for $4000 less than the dealer. I'll bet everything will be fine with it. And you'll have a great resource on this forum for info!

Thanks guys, I thought it has 3km (according to the seller) on it but when I started it show the right mileage 1km and the previous owner never registered it...I was test driving it yesterday and the only problem I noticed was switching to reverse mode. How did you guys deal with yours VL drive switch? Is there any recalls for it?

Common problem. Usual on the spot way to get it to work is to rock the sled back and forth or to get off and lift the rear. There is a bulletin on it but I don't think it is covered on warranty. It's a new belt and shim for the secondary clutch. Another thing is to re-check the chain adjustment. I found that adjusting it on the loose side helped. Turn the adjuster until you feel it contacting the chain then back off 1/4 turn (instead of finger tight and 1/4 back as per manual).
