Hello:
I purchased a new '05 Grizzly on 8/31 of this year.
I was just reading some items in my owners manuel, they recommend turning the fuel cock to the OFF position when the engine is not running.
I've been forgetful and leaving it in the ON position while it is sitting. Have I caused any harm? I seem to learn things the hard way.

Never had a problem with mine. I even leave it in the "on" position while trailering, with no ill effects.

they reccomend that incase the needle is stuck open in the carb bowl. if you notice gas in the air box start shutting it off till you disassemble carb and clean it

If i was you i would get in the habit of shutting it off, they tell you that just in case the floats, needle getting stuck! When you least expect it, it will happen and could cause a dangerous situation? I also know they will seize up if you don't use them like you should. I had an IT 175 and i found out the hard way! I killed about a 10 by 10 area of my sister in-laws grass! Man, was she peed!

I usually leave mine in the on position. When in the truck or on the trailer I always shut it off. My 00 griz would flood if trailered if left on. I did have a 2 stroke bike fill the crank case once. I never let that happen again.

Bad Idea - always turn it off.
I bought a 2002 Grizz with only 32 miles on it in February. It had been sitting in the previous owners garage way too long. After the first ride I left the stopcock on, but the old gas had gummed-up the float in the carb and it leaked all the gas out onto the garage floor. It also contaminated the oil, as gas runs through the head and past the piston. I had to clean the carb, drain and flush the oil and install a new filter.
For this reason alone I would advise always turning off the stopcock. I use gas preserver (Stabil) in all my gas but you never know when the float might get stuck. With the stopcock off, no worries.
