hey guys looking into the idea of putting some nitrous on my 04 rx-warrior. i have an excell exhaust, k&n filters, pioneer roller secondary and 144 studs. i do a lot of trail riding but a couple buddies have some 170- 180 hp f7s and i thought maybe nitrous would let me run with them on the few long stretches we can get on. what is the best set-up? whats the biggest shot i can run safely? how long will a bottle last? what would i have to change once i put the nitrous on?? jets and clutching things like that. finally how much do they cost?? would i be better just buying a turbo?? thanks guys!!

What is best? Most on this forum will say Holtzman because it doesn't required a bottle heater. I like my N.O.S. setup, but it is a more complicateed install than Holtzman.
Biggest safe shot? I have hit my sled with a 75 shot before, IMO anything larger than a 50 shot you will need race gas.
How long will the bottle last? .1lb per 9-10bhp for 10 seconds, so a 50 shot with a 2.5 lb bottle is 45 seconds. Use sparingly!
What would you have to change? You may need to do some fine tuning of your clutches. I have to tune around 9500 RPM off the bottle because, with spray I hit 11.2K, and with track spin I hit the limiter on occation.
Cost? I have 1K total in my setup with all the accessories. and nitrous is cheap $4 lb. So it depends on what you want. For me having turbo power isn't important to me. I I just spray when I'm racing or climbing and carry an extra bottle. You can buy a lot of nitrous for a lot less than a turbo. If you don't want to mess with bottles, are going to keep your sled for a while, and have the money for it then go turbo.
Hope this helps

Blown14psi - I couldn't have said it better myself!
I would just like to add that the 4 stroke power range is not like a 2 stroke so if you are at 10,000 with the bottle off, you won't feel the difference in power. The best thing I like about nitrous is that I can let my son drive it or my wife (with the bottle off of course) and still be a stock sled. Turn the switch on and look out! Back to back runs through the radar on Rib Lake with the same clutching, my attak ran through the radar at 119mph off of the bottle and 131.9mph on the bottle. Like Blown14psi said, use it sparingly on the trail and it will last for ya, but start drag racing and it will be gone in no time. I like to come out of a corner, hit the throttle and spray, then let off of the spray after 3-4 seconds but still be full throttle. That just puts me that much futher ahead and they will never catch up, till the next turn or stop.

Found the post from Matt (BBY)
Matt (BBY) posted these in the Attak/Apex :
BandistsSRX (Rock Thumbs) 122 on his RTX with .91 track, and 124.6 on a GT with .91 track
I ran 122, 120, 119 then slowed down as the ice softened.
Bob Donahue ran 122 and several 121s
Maybe 3 guys at 120
Terry Burmeister (NOS PRO) 119- and thats with slow ice. Good running Attak.
Bone stock Attaks and APexs were 114-117.
Speeds slowed as temp increased.
Fastest power adder.
Rock at 135, CPR TURBO
Terrys Attak, 132- Holtzman Nitrous
Try this on for size...93 on a Brand new Phazer. There were two there and both were high 80s to low 90s. I was very impressed with only a 80 horse motor
Had fun, nice seeing Tom, Terry, Rock, Bob and the rest of the guys.

I use the boondockers nos kit 50hp. This is a dry spray with a fuel controller to adjust the fuel on and off the bottle through low - mid -high range. Very reliable kit IMO. I have all the setup specs which were dyno'ed a year ago. 3lb bottle which fits in the front nose. Yes you need a bottle heater but not difficult to install and it provides a very reliable spray every time. The Nos lasts approx 50 secs. On the bottle 5 - 10 sec a time. I would not spray any longer than that. Very reliable kit. I to have an excell exhaust, airbox mod, 10ek plugs and Ulmer stage II clutch. You will only need to bring the rpms down to 10200-10300 with a 50 hp shot...
You can PM me if you want to talk more...

if you end up going with n2o. let me know. I have 4 custom spacers that mount between the carb boots and cylinder head. I had these on my rx1 and was running a nos fogger system. they worked great and the stock air box still fit. didn't have to drill any holes. but If was to do it all again I would go with a system that dosen't need a bottle heater and that is as simple as possible. and I would run like a 30 shot. when I was running the 50 shot it seemed like it went way to fast even with a 2.5lb bottle. hope this helps.
