Tried to find a thread that was already started...but thought I would start this one.
It may make a difference...and then again it may not. But I am going to try.
I'm bound and determined to get 110mph or more out of my Viper XTX with stock gearing. I've hit 109.05mph so far (documented from a time slip) and just looking to improve mph on my naturally aspirated Viper. It's nice working at a machine shop where I can do this. Secondary is machined and will be a huge improvement as I won't have to run the washers under the helix to prevent coil bind, plus I machined the secondary so I don't have to run 2 washers under each of the small 8mm bolts for belt deflection with the 8DN belt.

I went to my asphalt results and my best mph was 109.30mph documented.

Anxious to see the results. I'm thinking that the clutches have been holding you back a bit on top.
Question: How much do you expect the machining to affect your calibrations?

I will post my findings and machining after I do some testing.
***** I have been a machinist for years and have been in the machining industry for almost 25 years....because this is a very delicate part that is balanced and spins a lot of RPMS, make sure you have your clutches machined (if you are going this route) by someone that knows what they are doing... I believe the clutching is holding everyone back.
After so much thought, I don't expect the machining to affect anything but top end. Believe me, I have put so much effort into figuring these clutches out it makes my head hurt. I am not machining the angles, I'm just machining more room for movement and to fix our little 8DN issue and secondary spring coil bind.

As a CNC Machinist myself, I would love to see some pics of what you areas you modified, fixtures, etc.
If you'd rather not post them on the open forum, a private PM would work too

From the little bit I've looked at and studied the clutches, would it work to simply machine the helix around the shaft area where it contacts the actual clutch body itself? This would be a SIMPLE way to allow for more travel in the secondary

I posted some pics of this idea on the Facebook page..would post them on here but haven't found a way to do that yet, I think it's cuz in using a smart phone and not a computer. Anyways Terry if u got a chance to look at the pics I posted or want me to send them to you I think there is a good possibility that a "mod helix" will be a simple way to gain just a tad of mph. Not going to be huge gains by no means, if it does work it would maybe get you 1-2mph as long as you have the power and the right type of free rolling conditions to make it happen which on asphalt you would!

You start posting numbers then you will be on the #*$&@ list....LOL
If it was me, I would have machined them and not posted that I was doing so... because of the Vendors.

Nope, not posting any numbers bud. And I recommend those that want their clutches machined to go to the vendors.... Like I mentioned in post #6. I don't have my own lathe so I do this solely for myself.

Unless he is reverse engineering something a vendor has done, or is doing, I don't see anything wrong with his posting this. The vendors aren't the only ones with mechanical abilities around here, been machining my own clutches to get more top end for years... The vast majority of people don't have access to the machines required to accomplish this so they would have to use a vendor anyway.
