Making the RX1 into an 06

I am seriously considering updating my 03 shorty to the rider forward design for next winter. I love the feel of a rev, I just don't like skidoo. Who else is thinking about going to the 06 seat, bars and windshield. What costs am I looking at and do you think some aftermarket company will have a package kit out by next winter? I don't care about fuel injection and a little extra weight and my 03 only has 1300 miles on it and runs great. Front end is already updated and I own it so why buy an 06? Thanks for the ideas guys. I appreciate the feedback :D

Aren't the '06's built with the Delta II chassis? I think you'll have to change allot more than handle bars and the seat to yield the same results. Good luck ;)!

06 seat, articulating riser base and riser height of your choice plus new 06 or CAT bars. This will give you the rider position and feel just not the lowered front spindles and theoretical better front end handling. Total cost around $500. Been there done that on a Cat 01 to 02.

It's more than a new seat and riser, it's a Completely different chassis. If you see one in person you'll realize this.

The 06 is quite different. I have a boss seat and 3" articulating riser on my 04 and it is close. I can't move as far forward though. I am not sure that an 06 seat would work either. There are changes to the gas tank design, as well as a new tail light assembly.

But if he wants to update to something close to the 06 but not get the full benefits of the new front suspension layout and engine for $500 rather than the 6 to 7 thousand it would cost him to get into an 06. Reasonable investment to me.

You can wash it, put a new dress on it and even put perfume on it and it's still just a pig :tg:

Just kidding, but you kinda get my drift :ORC

I found myself setting (litterally) on my gas tank many times in the tight twisties and admit it did help.

Hey Guys, love the input. One of the earlier threads stated that a Yammi rep told him that the 06 seat and bars was a bolt-on fit. Looks like the same tank to me, just covered up. Also the windshield would have to be chopped to accomodate the forward bars. Gotta be possible to do. I love the way my 03 rides and drives, I just don't like the hips below knees position. And like its been stated, even a grand $$ to update is cheaper then new. And, even the 03 is no pig! I love the sled for the type of riding I do.

I think the ticket for the seat is to use the 06 Nytro or 06 Vector seat. I believe they are using the old chassis and it should be a direct bolt on.

if you're looking to get your hips above your knees a different seat, or even getting you current seat re-packed would be the way to go. You'll probably want a bar riser at that point too.

That's what I was trying to get at earlier. You won't be as far forward as on an 06, but you will be close. I did what I mentioned above, and it was a great improvement. Much less tireing if you are in the bumps or stand up/move around a lot.

yep

that is exactly what I was thinking about doing. I already have the risers I just need the new seat, I have a vector and the nytro seat looks like it would fit, same everything. I wonder though how are new seats gonna cost. Does anybody know how much the 05 seats were that some people were putting on their 04 03 sleds

Ronnies.com shows the price for an 04 seat a $386 (couldn't check 05's). I'm guessing the 05 seat would be close, slightly more. Of course, you should be able to get them for less than their price is listed as. I'd say it's comparable to a BOSS seat, as with stock you wouldn't loose the weight.

Maybe I can shed some light on this thread. Eventhough I have many upgrades, I just put a Boss seat on and a 2" riser. What a difference. It is a totally different sled. My butt is at knee level and I can naturally stand up on a big bump. I love the riding position. Very good investment for the money spent. You will not know how bad the 03 seat is until you ride an 05 or a new Boss seat.
