Meth works

Blue Shadow,
We have tested the HP with and with out meth. You do not loose HP with Meth. Some people say that there is a gain of HP WITH Meth but we didn't find that either. The Meth just helps to controll detonation so that you can turn up the boost, timing, etc to realise the potential HP.As far as TO MUCH OCTANE,Yes you can have to much octane but stick with it because of the specific gravity of the c12.It will help to lower your cylinder pressures. To compensate for the extra octane of the fuel, you can just turn down the meth a little. But becarefull not to turn it down to much.Better to have to much meth then not enough

Hurricane - have seen in another thread you tune the meth controller with a pyrometer. What temps are you looking for to be safe and not using too much? I dont want to have to pack extra when I'm up on the mountain.

Bottom line...that set up is making huge power on crappy canuk 91 octane. Can,t wait to start tuning it up at high boost levels & actually being able to start the sled at -20!

lakercr is going to like you Turk, sounds like your going to keep him busy with that approach. Remember you have a stock motor!!!!!!!! Just a friendly word, us caution.

Jim ,would I be running to much octain on 20 psi and straight c 12 race fuel with the meth starting at 9 psi and max out at 20 psi .My a/f is 11.8 at 10400 rpm on top end .When people say you may loose hp with the meth how do you tune to get back the hp you lost .thanks

No such thing as too much octane when it comes to saving engine's. The LITTLE power loss, maybe, is worth it in my book. C12 is a great fuel just a little light on octane for 20lbs maybe, certainly not too much. Your A/F is right on, bump up the RPM alittle.

Quicksilver,
It's not that much diffrent then 2 strokes.EGT #'s depend on the location of the probe in the header but positioned right,we look for about 1150deg.That is far cooler then a boosted engine, that I've seen, will run without meth.Very safe

thanks for the info ,when the meth is on it don t feel any different all the way to top end .I don t need to think about dito anymore .It works real good were I can only get c 12 running big boost .I have one more race in two weeks up hill with 100 pounds gone off the sled .We have no more snow but in the mountains were the race takes place there is .Starting at 20 psi and if I need more I will turn it up then .Herricane (DAVE ) thanks for the kit ,I can now run the way I want on boost .

I love threades like this ;)! Very helpfull, and full of input not opinoins. Will help me a lot with mine. Since i am also trying for the corner to corner with the meth. Great topic guys

Yea my old Rx1 that i put meth on rocked! 15PSI on pump loved it!!!

Skydog

i installed one of hurricanes kit on a z1 for a buddy, hes at the max of the hijacker and running about 23psi of boost. we went out to our test field, he ran the sled with no meth the same way he was running it with c12 in the tank. sled was pulling 8000rpms. we drained the tank, poured in some 91 oct pump gas in and tried the sled again, was pulling 8150 rpms and at the same a/f too!, so we definatly gained some power on that one

As well... as cylinder pressure spikes... remember what dave told us....

Need good fuel + meth to run very high boost safely for long pulls.

The controller has 2 settings - PSI that pump engages at, and PSI that pump will deliver 100% pressure at. I'll post a graph (from the instructions) that will help a lot in explaining the effect of changing one or both of the settings.

Yep...Starts to engage pump at 2psi to 8psi and rulls full psi from 2psi to 25psi. from the Injection Controller.

...At 4psi of boost pressure pump operates at 10%
...At 12psi of boost pressure pump delivers100% of injection Pressure.
...Boost pressure between start & full, the injection controller will linearly adjust the pump pressure.

...Comes in at 4psi and run to 10psi or 12psi
...Comes in at 6psi and run to 10psi or 12psi
...Comes in at 8psi and run to 18psi
...Should only pump what you need and limit the water/meth it if your over on the values, so no waste.

Of course you can dial it into anywhere inbetween those, as those are the referance points on the injection controller controller

Hey Jim is Mike racing or trail riding that bad boy?

I'm going to be happy just running around 10lbs of boost off the turbo, with the water/meth coming in around 4psi and run at 10psi to 12psi depending on the EGT's on the header.

I'm also running the Fail Safe Box, the trip point looks like it runs from 100 to 500ml/min. Shuts off the motor if you ever run the pump pressure too low or loose your water/meth somehow. Kinda a nice saftey feature to have with all of this stuff going on under the hood. I'm hoping that with the upgrades to the header and the stress relief to the header and the water/meth... that it should run without any worries about any cracking issues at all.

Bountyhunter - I run the same setup as you but I have a failsafe solenoid to bypass the boost controller when meth flow gets too low, this way I can continue to run the sled at wastegate boost setting which is safe on pump fuel.

...Absolutely,your Output fluid line runs from your tank to your pump to your Solenoid, then through it to your Nozzles tapped into your intercooler. and your power line runs from the Solenoid back to your Injection Controller. I actually like that system as it's very simple and works well.

My Fail Safe Monitoring System hooks up exactely the same way other than my lines go through my Fail Safe Unit rather than a Solenoid to my Injector Nozzles.

But here is were the real differences are when the system triggers a low flow below the set limits....

#1...It will reduce the timing with a igntion/timer controller, such as a MSD.

#2...With a after market engine computor [ECU] Can bs set up for a less aggressive tune.

#3...A relay to be used with turbo engines equiped with a stock boost control bleeder valve. When the IFS unit activates the relay will open to disable the bleeder valve, allowing full boost pressure to the turbo waste gate. This will limit the maximum boost pressure of the turbo to that set by thwe waste gate springs.

#4...is the same as yours as my Fail Safe Monitoring Box hooks up to my Injection Controller which hooks up to my Manual Boost Controller allowing full boost pressure to the turbo waste gate and limit the maximum boost pressure of the turbo to that set by the waste gate springs.

My system came with the IFS-10 that's why I'm running it at this time.
Considering that this whole system was designed for a auto, it has been adapted to hook up to our sleds....Pretty Cool Hey.

This Boosted stuff has been a blast to learn about, as there is Always something new for me to learn about and play with :flag:

BTW....are you running Two Tanks?

I have the IFS-10 as well, and yes I run 2 tanks of 2 quarter capasity each.
