Ya if you already have the seat off you are almost there anyway... and the donuts are something you could change yourself even saving a few bucks. Go with the copper ones, they cost a little more but will last way longer. Basically once you get the tank off there is 4 screws holding on a plate that says hot on it, you will then see the fibre glass you are talking about. Clean that crap out of there as you don't want to burn your sled down to the ground... There will be clamps in there you just need a hex wrench to open them up and you will see the donuts.

I too have a nest but it is up around the header/Y pipe (I can see the grass built up around the pipe when looking down the tunnel).....I removed the seat and panels but still not able to get to it (did not pull the gas tank).

When I start the sled once it gets warmed up it starts to smoke up through the handlebar area and smells horrible. My first thought was to spray the area good with water and let it warm up until the nest smolders out or falls out. My fear is that the nest will catch on fire.....my question is....what are the chances it will damage anything?

Next option will be to take to a dealer (doughnuts need changed anyhow) and let them clean it out while they are in there.

You do not want a fire under your gas tank!

The plan is to tackle it this weekend, going to clean it out and replace the doughnuts with copper if I can find some in stock....currently it is in my storage building so I have to move it to the garage quickly where my tools and good lighting is.
