I've had mine for five days, but the rear end sucked from day one. When I got it home from the dealer and backed it off the tilt trailer, the tunnel was all the way down on the track, and it was running over the snow flap. I've dialed up the preload on both springs but it still sags low and the front skid shock bottoms over the stupidest of stuff. With the excessive sag in the rear, there is little weight on the front end. I will be buying all new shocks and springs all around in a couple of weeks. Sucks, but I still would rather have the mtn than the fx. Just made turns in 3-4 ft of fresh yesterday!

Have you turned the little triangular adjuster piece to the stiffest also? It helps a little bit.

Another tips
I have modified the plastic piece that stops the little pivot on rear swing arm.
i made a new plastic that stops the pivot aprox 10 mm (half inch) earlyer when the backend of slides tip up as you describe.
this connects the front and rear swing arms and force the front arm to retract when the back one does.. and this makes use of both front and rear springs to take up the power when going off trailer or bumps.
It makes a BIG differece !!!!!!!
it feel´s like a diffrent machine
it behaves like a racer
it does not bottom at all
2 bucks on a plastic piece.... it made my day!
I cant understand why yamaha don´t make this connection adjustable as on Venture and all other machines??

Gabe, yeah I put the preload all the way up on both springs- 5th position on front skid shock, H on rear spring. Joel, can you post some pics? Is this the same anti-bottom fix that pat the rat came up with in the "need dimensions" thread?

I think you're talking about the coupling system, joel. Is this correct?

The only thing is you will lose wieght transfer by doing this. If your using the Mtn lite off trail you want the transfer. I agree on the bottoming thing but I ride this machine breaking My own trail 80% of the time, so I want transfer. A 3 position rotating block like the Polaris would be sweet. scissor stops is what I think polaris calls them.

Joel..could you describe more or post a pic of the mod youre talkin about? I really want to stop the bottoming on my rear suspension!
Thanks

In my case i used a plastic that is thin, but make 3 of theese pieces on each side.
Used a hole drill to take out the pieces and then drilled an excentric placed hole in the middle. very simple.
the white is original.
depending upon wich way you place it it gives different setting, due to the cut placing (off center).
Not tested in the deep snow yet so maybe i lose some transfer, and as i suggested, if yamaha could make it adjustable with for examble a three way notch. the machine very easy would be more valued..
Added a picture of my custom cargorack, i have actualy made the hole frame new, and shorten it 5 inch to get less "overhang" (dont know the english term)

After a couple of days of talking to Ross at Hygear, I ordered a complete set of shocks with springs except the rear torsion spring which he says to mess with after installing the shocks. They are Custom Axis made by Penske which he says are at least as good as Ohlins but actually superior due to them being American which means easy to get parts and the ability to build the shocks custom on the initial assembly. I ordered top of the line, fully adjustable which means expensive. $1695 for ski shocks, $797 for center, $750 for rear. They'll be done in three weeks, then I'll let everyone know how they work.

I agree about the rear suspension, I'm a 250 pounder suited up (loose some weight) :exc: . I know they don't make these suspensions for thugs like me and others. I have an idea in the works of using the spring blocks form a RS Venture that are also on the Phazer Venture, to increase spring tension on compression I'll let you know the results and pictures to come.

I'm heavy, too, at 225 #'s. Joel, Ross at Hygear told me not mess with the rear spring yet so it would not adversely affect transfer and cause track spin. Do you notice a difference after changing coupling blocks?

I'm 125 pounds and even I've got everything on its stiffest setting and it bottoms easy, but it is a mountain sled so hey -
I'd be interested in shock upgrades, but not at those prices.

Hygear has a lot of upgrades for any rebuildable shock, but the junkers on the mtn lite aren't rebuildable. Maybe find some cheap Kayabas and have hygear upgrade? Maybe a grand or fifteen hundred then.
