My first 50

For those who want to do it by the a book, like I also read and have usually done, I have read of this break it in hard to set the rings is better for years- NEVER VARIED. I have to admit never have I heard or read of a negative out come. I have come to believe them, if you think about it, those stating are the ones with the most experience and knowledge when it comes to these motors. My 2 cents

Your hooked! Tasted the lure of the cheating Turbo for too long. Done. Thats why I wont ride one anymore. I know my weakness. Congratulations and looking forward to your reports.

Thats the PERFECT WAY to break it in! Hard and fast, and it will be fast.
Amen. I broke my ‘20 ltx le in hard. On and off the throttle a bit at the start then the ecu was reading WOT after about 25 miles. It pulls strong now

Oh I know, got my first taste of " Turbo Crack " in 2012, when Cat first came out with the ProCross. I was hooked then. Just went a different direction for a while.

I trust the words of the experts on here...you guys are hard core and yes I'd take the advise of a racing champion. Plain truth is, for me these sleds are so fast out of the box that breaking in by the book is all I could handle. I like the power of these machines but don't feel the need to do 100mph, I can certainly understand those who do like the rush of high speeds. Either way, sounds like breaking hard or slow has done no harm to these engines. Joe

UPDATE: Put 650 miles on the last 5 days - all COLD ones. Sled has a weird surge at 10 to 15 mph, noticed this since first ride. Its not the belt, because I broke in 2 new XS825s and it still surges like it did with the used belt used to break the sled in with. Any ideas ? Moved rear suspension mount to upper hole, that sure lightened up the effort at the handlebars. Still have not decided on a scratcher location. Even with the concrete trails we were running from Sidnaw to Marinesco, engine temp stayed in the 170 area. No coolant level drop in the tank either. Met Nick Keller at Rogers Bar, he regaled us with stories about his up coming adventures. That man is a inspiration, let me tell ya. Right side grip heater quit on the end of the last day ( thank God ) any ideas there ? Track stretched somemore, sure seems to lose top end with a loose track. Sum it up, fun, fast, smooth. To be continued...

Could it surge because you have ice cubes in your fuel line and you blow them out as you go faster. -13 temp out nothing runs good !

Did you do any suspension changes when you moved rear skid to upper hole? Did you notice any difference in ride quality or handling?

Relocate to upper hole was the only change made. As far as ride or handling, the first 50 miles was on a smooth lake so hard to tell. Seeing as I have different shocks and skis than stock, I am starting from square one.

I moved mine to upper hole this week on my20 Ltx Le , I found it definitely took weight off front end for easier steering
Also helped with cooling! I didn't have to use my ice scratchers on either ride this week where I had to run with them down daily. I did notice better rolling resistance and better hook up but resulted in more push big time. And sled seems to ski lift quite abit in the corners.

What’s your ski and suspension set up now ? I find mine very stable in the corners with no ski lift at all.

I am running the stock tuners with 7.5" runners . Suspension setup is close to stock I've softened the front springs 1/2".
Rear torsion blocks are on 1. Front shock in skid I have stiffened though

I've been trying to get it set up to handle close to a srx. I have been riding a 2020 srx and that sled has way better ride and handling characteristics .

Try backing off the centre spring, before I moved the rear suspension bolt I too had to crank up the centre spring to take some weight off the skis now that I moved the rear suspension bolts I only have about 1/8” preload on the centre spring and still have light steering and it rides great.

I also run shocks on medium. Truthfully it's the only setting that works, soft sucks and firm is like a rock
