I figured I’d share an update of my 14 XTX. Been awhile since on. Updated my VIP today to be sure I’m here regularly now. Follow up and help is unreal here for many of us.
Have 12,000kms on the dial now.
Only one major issue (code 34 misfire post)
Will add some photos.
Holding up very well. Keep it thawed, greased. Did my 10k oil change other day w filter. Minor issue with water creeping into chain case. New seal solved that. I’m always out early in season and out away late. Ride in low snow a lot but have learned to keep skid lubed. (Dragging foot)
Mods: primary clutch arms secondary, frog skins, blue skis, 6”shapers I/o just pulled and installed everlasters, steering update (Yamaha), tested fmf exhaust and Hindle. Back to stock. I now have an excell exhaust I’d like to try. HELLA 90/130 watt bulbs. 4th wheel kit and DuPonts.
In process of full wrap. Working with Canadian company right now. Front came in kit and remaining I’m ordering bulk sizes and cutting my own. No one has templating for the phazers. Tunnel is complete. Have headlight, tank sides, front hood coming very soon to finish off.
Shapers I got over 10k on.
Trying everlasters now. Need to dial in. Bite good but too good coming through corners off gas. Making them very unpredictable.
Imo if they weren’t bent up so bad I’d sharpen the shapers and put back on. Held up great imo.
DuPont I’m over 10k, need to be done tho.
Hindle, broke, cracked, packing gone in 500 k, springs broke(lost count). Rubbed on many spots on frame. Was very annoying at cruising speeds. Made for 10 and down. Not the new seat bracket phazers like mine. Still waiting for them to send the new FMF style springs and update me on fuel controller. Yeah I know, ain’t happening.
Going to order the 20t gear. Have friend here not on site who has bolted on exhaust with 20 tooth and were same out of hole, he pulls away when I top out 73-75mph. Stock secondary on his.
Frog skins were good investment imo. I HAVE NOT done the full block off but will say you can definitely feel the difference in throttle response. Mainly the 5/8-7/8 throttle position. It’s not a lot but definitely a gain. Main thing I noticed is that annoying vibration is gone. (Hood on air box). That drove me nuts.
Headlights and lighting. Tried many things. LED are great for clear nights or leading the pack. Tried flood, spot ect. Thing that has worked the best so far is the hella 90/130’s.
I have only used low beam as I haven’t done homework on amps the 130’s will draw, if fuse will hold or if wiring sized correctly or not. Have 1500kms of riding with low beams tho. Wow. Aimed these are by far the best for clear terrain. LED didn’t create enough shadowing to predict conditions ahead at speed on dark night. Again, bright yes, but throw light. No way. Have aux led lights mounted to headlight cover. 30* spot. 5500k. They’re good leading or no snow to have on. Any snowdust, blustery weather it just amplified it so white was hard to see threw it. The Hellas are 4300k and imo the yellower the light the better for seeing further with better trail definition. Snowy conditions outstanding for cutting threw and showing trail.
I’m sure more will come to me here, hope you enjoy

Awesome update, and awesome wrap! What a disappointment with the Hindle. I had high hopes for it.
I am surprised at your need for a 20t gear. With your clutching set up right you should be walking away from him all the way to top end.
Clutches shifting out completely? How often do you clean them?

Everlasters.
I’ve hit probably 5 rocks now. At speed. So far straight and carbides looking good.
Even tho 5” compared to 7” shapers these bite in corners hard. Mainly worse in lower snow as the shapers were more forgiving being lower profile overall. I’m going to pull some weight off skis and continue to dial in. Really scarey right now as it’s sudden and unpredictable.

My 07 I sold a buddy still beats this one. Imo it’s over all drag of the 144 vs 121.Awesome update, and awesome wrap! What a disappointment with the Hindle. I had high hopes for it.

Cleaning wise, once a season. There is virtually no dust, I check every ride once back in YamaCave

Odd. The only reason I can't tear more sleds out the hole is traction. It's only a 500, but it really is very quick 0-80km/hr/
What's your top speed? I don't even know what mine is to be honest.

Me too. $800 bucks gone. I will say they did warranty work on it. Took months. When I got back it was not riveted, both ends, ends were pounded into can. Dent. No springs, no new “updated” rubber for clamp, no new clamp. All had broken or cracked in 500kms.
Water under the bridge with me but I will say what they advertised for gains and lack of posting “actual” results here I should have known better. Excell I have here now. I’m hoping abit quieter than most. I want the gain but the noise for homes I pass in trail not so much.

Via gps, my speedo on my phone for max speed I can hit 125km/h. That’s holding it (fluttering 3/4 to 7/8’s throttle) on good day. I can do 118/121 all day long every ride.Odd. The only reason I can't tear more sleds out the hole is traction. It's only a 500, but it really is very quick 0-80km/hr/

Every gps run I’ve done my speedo on sled read the exact same as both gps.

Good update. And that wrap is nice!
I'd be weary of those Hellas for two reasons. One is burning the wiring and second is overtaxing the stator. I went to HID's just for that reason (well, also for increased light ).

I should add here. Ever sled is set up differently. I could probably gain on top end if I took weight off the skis. I like the aggressive trail performance and can’t do that with to much transfer to rear under powerVia gps, my speedo on my phone for max speed I can hit 125km/h. Thanks Moose
I’m going to have to agree with you. I’m Leary myself with those Hellas. The ultimate lighting setup would be 4000-4300k HID.
WRAP is work in progress. I should have remaining cuts soon. Majority of it is my templating and cutting. Challenging but with heat gun this stuff is workable!!
