- Bought a new 05 Vector which I still have
24K miles
The sled in question is a Vector and it already has 20 series battery in it. The dead battery was in fact 'SHOT" as confirmed by two different tests. Steiner had a great thought in that a plate could have been jarred lose.....FWIW.....I didn't manhandle the battery....any more that what the battery goes through in the sled.
The DEAD/SHOT battery was some off brand that I picked up quickly when I thought my original Yuasa battery went bad....actually the stator went bad. A wrench that tested it at a local snomo/atv shop pointed to the (off) brand and said "that's the reason". Stay with a Yuasa he recommended.....and that's what I did.
Sled starts and runs like a dream........
And BTW........you know the one Yami 4S "Golden Rule" about making sure the breather tubes are attached to the airbox or you'll pump oil out all over the place? Well after 9 years of owning my Vector I finally did it! Forgot to put the big breather tube on the side and proceeded to pump out 3/4 qt. of oil into the sled and onto the floor.
Can't wait to see what else I screwed up in this rebuild/refresh project!

Thanks. Sounds like maybe the Deka ETX-20L may be a good fit? It is larger high CCA and it has left hand positive terminal.

Glad you found your problem Jim! Aren't you supposed to be riding this weekend? I found Yuasa batteries on Amazon for decent prices I replaced mine. My first replacement battery lasted 0 miles. It was dead from the factory, but it was another (cheap chinese garbage) brand entirely. I went to install my snowtrackers last night. 30 minute job turned into 2 hours and they are still not installed! I rigged up a flywheel puller to press out the frozen spindle bushing that the ski bolt slides through. That bushing was frozen, frozen, frozen. No amount of heat or pounding would have moved it. My point is....what is my point? Haha. Well if it isn't a battery bending you over and pulling out your hair it will be something else! When is your UP trip?

trosell is having problems (see RS forum) and he found my thread from last year. Cheap battery lasted 3 years....lesson learned. This post is a year old? LOL!
Mike - I'm supposed to leave tomorrow but have to make a few calls to see if the trails and firelanes survived. They had 6' of snow but we all know it can go quick! My son is coming home on leave in later January (dates not firmed up yet) and we plan on doing a 5 day bag trip in the UP. After riding 8 years on the old Polaris, he's really looking forward to riding the 05 Vector the whole trip.
You have to pull the skis & spindles to install Snow Trackers?
