A friend of mine is thinking about installing a MCXpress turbo kit in his Rage. He is in need for more power. Lately he has got second thoughts after hearing rumors of excess oil consumption on turboed RS sleds.

Is there any thruth to this, and if there is, what is the causing the excess use of oil.

Any info is highly appreciated. Thanks rxrider

I have around 5000 miles on my sled with 4000 of them turbo'd. I have had no excessive oil consumption issues at all. I run a 70/30 mix of 110 race fuel and super unleaded. I ride in the mountains with 90% of my riding as boondocking and hill climbing.

Thanks woodsrider ;)!

Keep it coming guys

A turbo needs a constant supply of oil, a rear mount utilizes a pump to return this oil to the reservoir. If something is wrong with this system it will start to consume oil. MXC has a good kit for the 3 banger. I am running a Powderlites front mount that also work very well. Look into all of your options and do some research because it is a good chunk of change to get into the turbo game. Pretty much every one that has a turboed Yamaha is loyal to the kit they have. Until you ride one it is hard to apprehend how fast they are.

I know the MCX turbo kits for RX-1s and Apexes well, but I have no experience with turbo kits for the 3 cyl RS engine.

Thanks Boyko - My friend wants the MCX turbo kit because MCX are close by us (500 miles). He is going to trailer his sled to MCXpress and have them install the turbo. He just wants to be absolutely sure that there are no problems with the MCXpress turbo kit for the 3 banger.

Any info on the MCXpress turbo kit for the RS engine is highly appreciated.

i ran the mcx kit for a year then switched to the alpine.nothing wrong with the mcx kit it had to small oil return tank first year so it would dump oil out the vent line but that was fixed.i switched for the weight saving & little better throttle responce. ;)!

4Strokes - Thank you for your input, now I know what was wrong with the 2005 turbo kit, and that it has been fixed in later versions of the kit.

No oil consumption here after replacing the oil can on the intercooler with the new larger one. 1500 trouble-free miles. Most reliable sled I've ever owned.

TurboVector - Glad to hear that the problem has been taken care of by MCXpress. My friend would be glad to hear what you and others with this kit has to tell :) Thank you.

I ran my Vector Mtn with an MCX for a year and put on about 1200km. There were no oil consumption issues. The guy I sold it to has put a lot more miles on it since and I have never heard of any oil consumption issues. I think it is important to break it in and get a good ring seal. i put the turbo on right out of the crate so you can stiil break in properly with a turbo. I ran an Apex/MCX last year and same thing, no oil consumption. I don't think any of the turbo kits would cause oil consumption on a sound motor. :4STroke:

slymax - thank you for your input, much appreciated. I'm glad to hear there isn't problems with the MCXpress turbo kit for the 3-banger.

My Rage Turbo work well. Now 2800km and only wait snow.. Power after stock is great feeling.

Thank you Mr Cool

Yhe oiul consumption your buddy probaly heard about ws the 03and 04 rx series alot of them burned oil without turbo's yamaha changed the ings on the 05 rx's and it seemed to fix the problem.

pro116 - Thank you for the info.

My friend was at the dealer last evening and traded his '05 Rage for an '07 Attak, which he intend to turbo charge after this season.

That ends my quest for info on RS turbo charged by MCXpress, thanks to all for helping out.
