Would also look at the dealer for the engine problems as you let them know everytime something was wrong. Who knows if something dropped in the intakes when they had it apart...right? A good dealer would work with you at least.... Sorry for your misfortune.
I know you are more so referring to Steve's sled. It's I think 8 different problems between Steve and I. So not consistent at all! Once you have invested in a dealer with a lot of money it's hard to find another one that will back you up when you didn't buy anything there. And we don't have many performance orientated shops around our location to choose from. We already drive 2 1/5 hours one way! It's pretty bad when you memorize your dealers message that plays while your on hold! I have have owned a few Yamaha's and never had an issue quite like this! I'm thinking about getting mine fixed and either selling it or keeping it as a second sled and getting a new one of other brand. Not because I want to, but because I love snowmobiling and I put on average 6000 miles a year. And this is one of the best winters in a long time and I only have 3500 miles. I know that's a lot, but I work my #*$&@ off all summer to collect unemployment in the winter and have it off. So I want to ride, not sit here and have a sled in the shop! What a waste! Maybe I should start hiking in the winter!
I hear ya bud......sucks when you have all that money and time invested.

Yes it does! And it takes time to develop a relationship with your dealer as well. I'm kind of at a loos right now, as I don't know what I should do! I love how the sled rides and handles and jumps! It's fast as hell, especially when the belt is good! MPI has been great! I'm not upset with them at all in fact they have helped a lot in the matter! Another thing this is the best looking sled on the snow!! Except in Denver Bronco colors! Lol

Or left it stock and ride it 6000 miles , as you know got to pay to play !
Back when I was younger I wanted everything to be bad azz and faster than my buddies and had a lot of break downs but man they where fast !
Now I just like to ride and have fun take my kids and have a ball !
I think you both should find a different dealer because it sounds like they can bolt it on but don't know how to tune or figure out what the problem is ......just my .02 and nothing more !

Well I'm not young at all...lol well by age anyway! I don't have kids. We can't have them so my sled is my kid. And I'm ok with paying for it, and yes very fast! No worries, I'm just sitting here looking outside and missing all this beautiful snow! I hear sleds going by my house and it sucks!, lol...maybe I'll go out there and take them out and take there sled!

I have just about reached the end of my rope!!!!!
It was reading 176 degrees, 6#'s boost and 12.2 AFR at WOT. We ate and came out it fired right up and went the 40 miles home like it was on rails. happened and your telling me that it would run 12.4 on the AFR but still blow the block and not burn the pistons? YUP.
I BETTER HAVE FUN DA#$%.
By the way at 1000 miles the hyfax are still like new
Mr Sled - feel free to delete if you wish
It appears 12.2 is too lean with this kit for more than a 1/4 mile wot run at 6 lbs. it needs more fuel to help keep cyl/head temps from getting carried away, or less boost. (none of us want less boost)
without inj or a regulator/pump the stock viper cannot keep up at 6 lbs once heat starts to build (not water temp)

And some of us got lucky and are very happy with our Vipers. After the 8DN belt update we couldn't be happier with our Viper (girlfriends Viper).
But on a seperate note years ago I bought a wrecked Apex and repaired it. Folks I got it from swore it had not ran upside down, and I checked the oil and it looked clean, but the second ride out it blew. So I rebuilt it and never had another issue so hang in there and iron out these last few issues, I bet you will be happy in the end.

3 cylinders & 1049cc = bigger bores
Bigger bores = bigger pistons = more piston heat
More piston heat with todays fuel quality = detonation =
Sustained wide open throttle above 12 AFR on boost is asking for death at 6 lbs or above.

I am certainly not going to question an expert such as yourself so I ask this with all due respect. To have cylinder to cylinder breach like that when I raced stock cars required quite a bit of localised overheating to weaken the area between the cylinders, otherwise the detonation would deform a piston or break a rod as the trememdous explosion tries to go somewhere. . And I have plenty of left over broken rods and deformed pistons....lol. So my question is there something else going on here besides detonation? Can't imagine a weak spot in head gasket between cyliners as the Nytro did not do this that I am aware of. Maybe head bolts not torqued right at factory as odd as that sounds?
BTW I always ran 11 something WOT on my 280hp Nytro.

Quality of fuel plays a huge factor to making these live. You never know what you are getting from the pump. With afr's on the edge, fuel systems (fuel pump, injectors) getting maxed out with the amount of boost it's better to be safe with lower afr's.
Honestly, for these to be more bullet proof there needs to be some kind of knock sensor to let you know when you've crossed the line. Yamaha's bed partner has this technology already on a stock sled.
