New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

Well the engine is the same internally except the piston and bore size ( same week rods ). And other cams if i remember correct ( more rpm range ). And the Viper engine is rated at 130hp not 135. 18 hp less is not far off the 50cc smaller engine that was originally built for 8500rpm range.
The new Doo is going to be in the 165-170 range. If Yami uses a power adder and is still in that range it will be a disappointment.

I can see Yami being satisfied with just a few more horse than the competition. Fortunately, I cannot see Cat being in that mind set. Hopefully they're pushing Yami to cross that 200 number.

I was not comparing it to the 2 smokes. But referred to the difference HP between the YXZ and Viper engine versions.

Found this

Looks like there is a front mount rad under the front bumper and two massive intake ducts on both sides of the hood, perhaps " ram air " . . Would make sense to me, bodywork looks wider, could it be? 200hp cross plane with ram air.. Man this wait is killing me.

I haven't seen the dyno numbers comparing Nytro to a Viper 4s. I know they are basically the same engine other than the exhaust and fuel mapping. Personally just seat of the pants I feel the motor felt like it had more punch in the Nytro chassis.

Artic will want to keep claiming highest hp so if they are leaving Suzuki I'm sure they placed an order for a 200+ hp engine..

Maybe some clutch that can handle 9500- 10000 rpm ? In the video it sounded like rpm over 9000

Cat doesn't need Yamaha to build them a two stroke...they have their own engine building facility, and have already built their own 600, you can bet they will build their own 800....AND THERE WILL BE NO YAMAHA TWO STROKE SNOWMOBILE WITH A CAT ENGINE IN IT...PERIOD!!!! Yamaha is a 4 stroke engine company....they have made that pretty clear in their statements to the press over the past 10 years...give up the two smoke talk..it ain't happening!!

It could be a hydraulic dirived clutch, Yamaha did work with a company on something like this. Instead on having shift arms the clutch uses three cylinders that hold hydraulic fluid and a floating piston, as clutch spins pistons in fluid rise and fall accordingly and put the squeeze or release on the primary. Allowing for higher rpm use. I believe it was a group out of Quebec that own the land speed record for a snowmobile.

Will the Viper chassis handle Apex type power in a longer term run.....10 years? Or will the rivets start popping out in 3 years?

Question is, what engines has Yamaha to choose from?
The new 998cc from the sxs,
The 847cc from the FZ-09,
The 689cc from the FZ-07.
These are all crossplain engine types.
I hope the FZ-07 engine replace the Phazer engine and that the FZ-09 also will be available in a new lightweight chassis.
