Ok trying to talk myself out of buying one.
Chassis too many questions yet. Were reinforcements made? With good shocks More wieght and speed this one has the stock ProCross chassis will not take it. Hopefully RR type reinforcements added.
Engine. Are all the rods good?
Rider position. Is the bodywork allowing a little more rider forward?
Finally. Is what we are seeing now what we will get come 17.5? Very bad track record on this point.

best sled on market now hands down!!!dont be a fool

What do people want from Yamaha? Just curious and being serious. Interesting to see what different riders are looking for.

Id say this sled has the potential to be a home run. I have a 15' viper and have it dialed to rail rough trails. I ride with doos and poos. We all switched several times and to my surprise I can say I like my viper. You can tell its deff heavier than the others though. So for me the only thing I'd ask for is a weight reduction. The new power plant seems like it's going to be awesome! Why would they change the chassis as it works very well and now with the best 4 stroke motor availability. I feel like a lot of people don't adjust their sleds to their ridding styles. Just my opinions.

Yamaha die hards want a ALL Yamaha.. but times are changing and you cant make them all happy. So if you dont like what you see, I guess you either go get another brand or stick to what works.

I wonder what the weight is.....did they lower the motor in the frame?- seems like there's some body roll- ski lift in the video......

They never seem to give us real numbers but in time it will show up. I saw the tippyness in the VIDS too but if you have never driven a Viper it takes some time to learn how to ride it. I have also been any MANY MANY demos and the sleds are not set up good ...so I am sure some of that is just set up issues.

I really was expecting more HP if the initial 180-185 rating is true. i didn't expect a new chassis, but i was figuring in the 210 range for all this hype...

;)!I would like to thank in advance all the first year guys who buy this and prove this engine for the rest of us.;)! Looks like 2019 is my next new sled
Yamaha , by FAR , has the best first year track record , for new models , in recent memory.
I bought the 700SX , RX-1 , and Apex , all first year models ,and no regrets .
Many other horror stories of other brands .
No brand /model is perfect , but Yamaha is consistently better .
At one time I had a 2005 Mach Z 1000 , and a 2006 Apex GT , and decided to sell one .
The Mach Z was the first Skidoo I ever owned for myself , and that sled was amazing !
It was the fastest production sled , it left the Apex in its snowdust ,maybe even still the fastest , and could rail in the trails , better than all others .
I had some mapping issues , plug fouling , etc , but minor and corrected .
I sold the Mach Z , and a month later , KABOOM !
It was a toss up which to sell , as I loved both sleds , but kept the Apex , as I was afraid of what might happen , and it did .
Did I throw Skidoo under the bus , NO !
I bought my wife a GSX 600 E tec , and that sled is great for what it was designed for .
I would buy the Sidewinder , in a heart beat , if I see enough changes in the rest of the platform , as I didn't like the Viper , for the most part because I now ,after 14 years of the 4 cylinder Genesis , am SPOILED , even more so with the upgrades to the sled , that I have in my 2015 Apex XTX !
DON'T WAIT !
Spoil yourself today , and worry about tomorrow , tomorrow !
I bought my first sled in 1974 ! , and are probably more into sledding now than ever , as my son is into it even more than me .
I may not have more than 5 -10 years left of sledding left in me , but I am going to chase the latest greatest ,more than likely a Yamaha ,until they spread my ashes on my favorite trail !

Im excited! As usual, some of us will bitch but I like what Im seeing. It may not be what YOU want exactly but its great to see Yamaha coming out with some new brilliant snowmobile engineering. Read the detailed technical brief on this new powerplant at the yamaha sled talk blog and be prepared to be blown away. This engine looks to be light years ahead of what anyone else has to offer. Sure - I would love to see a new chassis but whats most important is to see Yamaha innovating again in the sled market! I never would have expected conservative Yamaha to release a motor like this. Sweet!!! Finally a new sled that can tempt me away from my beloved Apex.

From two different online magazines - yamahas hp rating is very conservative. One, I think snow tech, said its really 190. The other said it was closer to 200.

HP is not what I would be focusing on here. 50% more tq than a stock Nytro is a crazy statistic. My SC Nytro is nowhere near that and it already pulls everything hard out of the hole

From Amsnow
"The new 3-cylinder Genesis Turbo should pump out around 195+ ponies according to Yamaha, who stated its goal was the first 200-hp production sled. Although Yamaha dynos say they might be short of the 200-hp mark, the new Sidewinder sleds claim the highest power-to-weight ratio in the industry, as much as 30% higher than the next closest 800cc competitor (Polaris Pro-RMK 800)."
