New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

If Yamaha had something ready to be released in 2011 it probably was developed 4-5 years earlier than that and sure as hell is outdated if they held on to it and release it now...
Even the PRO that was a gamechanger in 2011 feels old now that the Axys is out, and still the old PRO has a better chassie then the new Arctic and Ski-doo (my opinion)

run the pipes out the back where they are supposed to be I might take notice
That's one of the best parts of the yamacat IMHO, no pipes out the back. IT makes the tunnel space useless for accessories and puts the noise up high. One can't put saddle bags, storage boxes, gas cans or survival gear back there. If you are only a trail rider, you probably don't care. If you do back country or backpacking trips, tunnel storage matters. Just picked up a Powder Keg, NICE Box! The apex motor rocks, but the tone sucks especially at certain speeds. Making it worse is that it is right behind you. I find my ears ring after a day of riding an Apex. I think exhaust pointing down helps to deaden the noise a bit in addition to the lower tone. I know Sasquatch doesn't like turbos but for those of us that do, exhaust in the traditional location provides options.

As a backpacker who loves week long trips how do you put saddle bags on the back of the sled? Apex sounds sweet and I don't know of this tone you talk of! Rear exhaust think Supercharger! Rear exhaust think rear mount turbo with a tunnel mount heat ex-changer.

Nice saddle bags mount in front and on top of rear exhaust with rivets, screws and straps just like any bag??? No problem the exhaust does not come anywhere near the bags.

Still cant use trunks and gas cans easily. Folks have had to modify accessories to the back of the foot wells. Yes, Perhaps I misspoke with the saddle bags as we do have some for our apexes, but things like the Ski Doo Linq, powder keg, and other similar solutions aren't possible. As for not hearing that obnoxious tone in the 20-35mph range, all I can say is age is a mother... :tg: I think it starts to go away around 40 or you are finally going fast enough that the noise behind you idea works out. My dad is getting to be hard of hearing and even he complains about the tone.

I'm aware of the drone but for me it is not a problem just speed up and it's gone. If you ride at those speeds it would not be good for the ears. When I hear the drone auto response is speed up. The linq is a nice set up but much more than I need for bagging. If I need more stuff I have a backpack I use. I don't need to carry a gas can but if I did I would figure it out as others have. Having said all this I really don't have to have rear exhaust keep it or go front exit fine with me just give me a well balanced sled.

I hear ya on what you can add to the back but I don't carry extra fuel and if I did I would add it to the foot rails. My luggage bag (Enough for a week of riding including runners for the hotel) fits on top of my seat at the rear and I carry a small bag with stuff in it on the back tunnel, I added the exhaust turnouts to do this. This is a tunnel sized low profile bag. So I have room on the side tunnel for two small cans of fuel if I wanted to add them. I have a set of saddle bags I don't use. I found them to be a drag in the snow. Rear pipe = be creative with luggage and fuel, side pipe = buy all the accessories the manufacture provides. Neither is wrong but I like my rear exhaust and the free breathing it provides so I get creative.

My XTX does not seem to have a loud what people call a drone. This could be because of my helmet as I have an couple older ones that are way less quiet. I also do not have the larger wheels as this adds to the drone. As a test take a Apex (rear pipe) and ride it without your helmet. You will find it to be quieter then with your helmet. My RX has an excell pipe and is louder then stock yet if I ride it without my helmet its very quiet.

The other reason I really dislike the rear exit exhaust is due to ice build up. After a day of riding, our apexes will pack on 70+LBS of ice from the snow hitting the top of the hot tunnel and dripping down into the suspension. Picking up the back end is not fun! Unbarring them, something I'm already cursing over is a royal PITA when they get their daily ice pack. Then you get them on the trailer and you have a lake in the trailer as they thaw out... I'd rather get rid of the ice, but make sure you don't leave anything on the floor. The lake eventually refreezes and your straps, tie-down buckles and anything else sitting on the floor gets frozen down as well. Also watch out for black ice on your trailer; I took a spill last year... The traditional exhaust doesn't have this problem. My viper's ice pack is only about 20LBS max. Most days, my suspension is still completely clean.

On my apex mtx I added two linq systems one for a gas can and one for a bag

I may put $10,000 into my machine in 2018! Why not ! It will be confortable , fast , reliable ,looks good , different ! Can do all kinds of things. Make it like Yamaha should of and could of , list goes on. Love my sled but..

That's what I want ,Cheaper than buying new .and the way winter is now , ? We need that snow ..in Michigan anyway..

Yamaha will come out with something sweet ! They always do! Pushing $20,000 at most ! And it will probably be heavy still , not light like a Polaris Axys /-\ with an Apex that light it would get airborne !! They say 418lbs - Whoa ! Polaris Axys

I always hear of all this ice and have heard up to 100 pounds of ice. So one time I took the worst ice build up I ever had and knocked off all the ice with a plastic mallet I carry. I placed all that ice in a 5 gallon pail (so I already know its less then 50pds). Melted it and I had less then two gallons. Now I've seen Nytros with a huge amount of ice but 70pds its not. That would be two pails of ice and a bit!

Yes they can get ice under them but then again so did My old Cat. In fact at one time or another I have seen every brand of sled packed in ice under certain conditions. Solution I've came up with as per my buddy with the Nytro I carry a small plastic hammer with me and with a few taps knock the ice out, Usually in the morning before riding but sometimes during a ride when the smokers are coughing up a lung I tap out some ice. I will agree though todays sleds are heavy. I think though when the weight of the ice is stretched to as high as a hundred pds its just that a stretch!

Here is a picture of my sled and its ice build up. This how it is most of the time.

I'd like to find it again, but there is a video floating out there of an apex (may have been a nytro) along with several other sleds of different manufacturers that were measured for this. He actually lifted them with a ceiling mounted crane with scale attached. That Yamaha picked up 70lbs.

Anyone ever try coating their protectors in Line-X? Will Line-x even adhere to aluminum? I've had ice in my bed before and it usually breaks off the Line-x pretty easily. I would think it would be strong enough for the consistent rubbing of the track as well.
