Too big... too much hp... cat looking for low hp with big miles per gallon like their old 660 engine is my guess. Not sure who made old 660 either.
It was Suzuki if I recall but and was supposedly the block that was used in the Geo Metro car. At least that is what I had heard.

A little more than a bucket full!
But still way less then a 100 pds and the reason I carry a small dead hit hammer. I can't see the exhaust tips and have to ask is that an undertunnel exhaust?

Being I go into hiatus during the off season I guess this looks to be the proper place to say this for what it is worth.
Pretty much year round my new found or revived hobby is mountain biking and also some winter fat biking. I have an IMBA sanctioned singletrack trail system close to my home and I have even stepped up to be a caretaker for that trail. I spend a lot of my free time there. This summer a guy was finishing up his mtb ride at our park but what I noticed was the fancy Fox Shocks work van he was loading his bike into. I asked if he worked for them...yep. Once we finished talking about mountain biking somehow we got into snowmobiling. Here the guy ride sleds too and said he visits the Arctic Cat factory quite often. When he found out I ride Yamaha he said..."what til you see what they have coming." He claimed some pretty rad machines are coming our direction. Said he's already ridden and tested some of them but obviously can't say what. Claims for 2017. I asked are they made in TRF, Minnesota...? He said nope, Japan.
We will see!

I've heard that from a lot of people! I have very little ice build up but I clear my tunnel all the time so it doesn't fill up. Its a morning ritual for me to knock off the ice and back up to remove it from on top of the track. There is usually very little but the most would be between the tunnel protectors and the tunnel. Hardest place to get it out as well but from my Cat days I've cleared it out before each ride. My Sister always cleared out her Doo 583 and later her 700 as well!

I've gotten 70 lbs easy of build up on ours. That's only 2 x 5 gallon pails full. There are mods and hammers to fix the problem. I have a 4 stroke to minimize maintenance, why do I want to replace my my morning oil filling routine with hammering ice out? The apex is suppose to be so refine I don't need mods. Why do I need tunnel blockoffs? This is one area that Arctic Cat definitely got right. I hope the new 2017 learns something here. The performance gains from rear exhaust are minimal and the weight gain from ice is substantial.

Two pails of ice is nowhere near 70 pounds. I've owned many sleds of many brands in my lifetime of sleds. Till Yamaha they where all front exhaust, I used to check and knock out ice from under them as well. Mods and maintenance are normal. I do not know of the tunnel block off you speak, never heard of it for Apex's! Glad you found a sled that has zero maintenance and no issues of any kind. Its a rare thing indeed!
Course this is what my tunnel looks like 90% of the time after a ride. So I don't see it as a problem and I still have my protectors. Rear exhaust is the best flowing exhaust!

Ok, sanity check. 1 Gal = ~8.34LBS. 5 gallon pail full = 41.7LBS. Multiply that by 2 and you get 83.4 lbs. Being very conservative, we have had plenty of build up to fill 2 pails per sled and we have two Apexes. Picking the rear end of an already heavy sled with that much extra weight can be a royal PITA when it gets that heavy, which it does. I'm glad you don't get that much ice. Perhaps its because you are further north and your snow isn't as wet or or because you removed your tunnel protectors (bad idea for those of us with studs) or something else is playing a factor, but there are lots of us that get massive amounts ice. I'll be happy to snap a picture if we ever get snow here. Note, I'm not the only guy here that rides apexes that have commented on this. Two pails of ice is nowhere near 70 pounds. K sanity check back, 5 gallon pail full of ice when melted down was less then 2 gallons. How do you fill two 5 gallon pails with ice melt it and still have them full? Ice weight with air is much different then water weight. As far as the ice buildup goes some have it, Nytros the worst. I don't see it as a problem and think its been blown out of proportion. You would only post if you have a problem and like all things internet thinking that 20 posts bad means all bad is not true. Yep some get lots of ice but I've rode with a lot of Apexes and I just don't see it on a daily basis!
I'll trade a little ice for the exhaust out the back any day. Nice free flowing exhaust not 180 degree turn not so free flowing Cat affair. That was my opinion based on a new Apex and what I would like to see! Opinions vary! Your obviously the other side! I'm cool with that!
