New 2017 Yamaha Sleds...

The 2 stroke doesn't make sense for Yamaha if they only sold it in a Yamaha. But, you could argue developing the viper/nytro engine and the apex motor any further than what is currently produced is also not worth it. They are great engines with few issues and can be modded to make a truckload of hp and still be reliable. So they put it in a cat and make the investment worth it by selling "twice as many". Same could true for a 2stroke. If it its in both brands it's worth it. Did Yamaha have any thing to the with the cat 600? They still sell 2 stroke dirt bikes

Rigid one how do you like your axys?

It's a nice riding sled, not many miles on it yet, about 150..It's mostly for my wife to ride. She had a nytro, it was just to much machine for her to handle. Honestly she was faster on her phazer than her nytro unless it was a straight line. So with the deals on polaris sleds right now with the low snow, I sold her nytro in a day for 4K, put that down on Murder Axys. She is way more comfortable on it, No more waiting for her after the twisties, she is right there..Only thing that sucks about it is the fuel gauge is off by 75%!!!!..But other than that, seems to be a pretty awesome sled.

I personally don't want a 2s. Just give me a N/A 4s and 180+hp around 640 pounds. With good suspension. The gold standard XRS Renegade 800 checks in at 599 wet. This is really not that light.

What would you rather have- A 170hp strung out 2s that's 600 pounds OR a stone cold reliable 180+hp 4s and 640 lbs. I'll take the latter.

I love the all black.....800 or 600? hard to tell by the pic

Thank you, I went with a 600 for her, Its a peppy little motor, I was surprised with that. The speedo has a top speed recall, she got it up to 89mph so far. I might jump ship if Yami doesnt bring something to the table. I really like my nytro, but want something more updated, and frankly I want a new sled..lol.

I'm not brand loyal, I'm more dealer loyal. So an 800 switch might be under me next season if yami doesnt have something coming down the pipe..

I'm in the same boat. I love my nytro, but it's got over 11,000 miles and will need to be replaced soon. Would like something lighter and more top end. Would like something I could break trail with in deep snow- just can't do that with my nytro, soon as you get off the hard pack, you have to keep the thing taped and its a pig to move around in the trees. I watched my buddy go around me like nothing and go wherever he wanted with a crossfire 700....just looking for something different

I hear ya, my nytro is a groomed trail rocket, but I know better than to attempt to go off trail to far or for to long..lol..My advice is ride every sled you can, I ride all my buddies sleds, I go to dealers and ask to give demo's a rip..I have ridden just about everything..There are some good deals out there and going to be some good ones next year on left overs..

I put 140 miles on my buddy's '16 800 Switchback on Wednesday, and that thing is awesome! I am a 4 stroke guy, but I will have to seriously consider one if Yamaha doesn't bring out something better than an AC bastard child Viper re-work. It had just as much pull as my '11 xtx - only thing lacking is it seemed like a half second delay in the throttle response. For the ride quality, I could get over that pretty quick.

Haha!
"...AC bastard child Viper re-work"
I had to laugh when I read that... but, if thats what we got on 1 of March, it´s not so funny actually...

I agree. I'm stuck to my dealer but I honestly feel if I could get one through him it would be a pro s 600. I dislike bar vibration and some the cheapness but made up for in ride handling weight and gas mileage. I love my nytro but like everyone said. Just want something new as miles get up there. I like the 4 stroke, I don't believe the weight should be that much more than a 2 stroke. 30-40lbs would be reasonable, and I wouldn't mind that. And wouldn't hate the procross chassis, but honestly the axis is plusher and just soaks up moguls in comparison. It also has more room for my knees to move around more. Feet are sort of stuck tho I wish I had more freedom with those on the axis

Wonder where the Phazer motor will end up. I always thought it would be a good idea to put it in the Delta box for an awesome entry level sled. Makes sense they never did trying to push the 4-wheeler style chassis which was not very newbee friendly and I think they shot themselves in the foot on that one. If the Apex gets a new chassis this year, makes sense to continue the Vector to use up all the leftover delta box chassis inventory. Maybe try the phazer motor in it too. As some have suggested, might see the Phazer motor in a Viper chassis which would be a good thing too.

I agree, I won't be laughing either. The ProCross chassis doesn't do it for me - I had a '14 XF9000 and it was a POS for numerous reasons, and I couldn't get it to corner for crap with stock skis either, and dumped it before I spent the money on aftermarket skis. I'm glad that people like their Vipers, and I am fine with the partnership as I think both companies can benefit from each other, but you can clearly tell that the ProCross was not designed for the Yamaha motor. It also doesn't have enough power for me in stock form, and IMO it isn't economical to pay for a turbo on top of the initial sled cost just to get to where you are at with a stock 1100T. The Axys is better across the board than the ProCross, and it seems Polaris may have finally figured out how to build an 800 to last........Hope March 1 delivers so I don't have to go down that path.

I just left a conversation with somewhat of an inside source. I couldn't get a name out of him other than its not a Venom, and it's a snake that goes sideways in the sand, "sidewinder". He's thinking turbo version in viper chassis for apex replacement.

I though most of us already agreed on Sidewinder, Viper re-work chassis with XYZ turbo motor. Lets stop the re-ash. lol
