the Yamaha tech I called today had lots of info on the new engine.Well that tells us that the problem with the starters are not the starter causing it, because Yamaha knows the problem exist and they wouldn't put it in the new motor in multiple machines if it was faulty.
He said the starter is Not the problem. And Japan is coming out with a new flash or fix, but he didn't know when.
That's what he told me anyway.

Been really reading the 16 Vector Service manual and NosPro confirmed by looking at a 16.5 this motor is same bottom end we have now. Head is different but thats about it. Maybe some slight internal differences but it all looks and specs out the same. Clutching is even the same. So there is three motors. The YXZ,The Vector/Viper and the Nytro/Viper motor. Forget about the YXZ motor. Only thing similar is the valvecover and probably the valvetrain drive. Thats it. So hopefully a flash will cure the starter gear failures and the failure of those half moon rubber pieces in valvecover of old motors was very very rare. Seeing that clutching is same in all 16's as it was last year. The power must be the same. Really I see no extra value in the newer motor vs the old. I hope everyone is happy with their sleds. Either is just as good as the other and I would not pay one dime extra for either version. No reason too. That is really what matters. Wish we wouldnt of had to guess but hopefully Yamaha will learn from this and inform everyone better.

I agree. Other than the people who didn't get the tuner 3 everything else is exactly what you thought you were getting when pre ordering.I don't know why everyone is getting bent out of shape over this. You were never told you were getting a redesigned engine. Some of the late builds seem to be getting them, probably because they ran out of the "old" engine and didn't have a choice. I'm betting they are trying to keep the numbers low just in case there is an issue with the manufacturing process that causes issues. I believe this is why they were only supposed to put it in the vector this year. Same thing skidoo did with the 800R in 07, only offering it in the mountain machines. Personally I would never buy a first year product. You never know what problems you'll have. Let someone else be the ginnie pig. Remember the 1100T Cat or even worse the 900 Poo? That mess almost put Polaris out of the snowmobile business all together.

As I am going high horsepower turbo the new engine with stronger crankshaft and rod bolts would definitely be a plus for me but I will be happy with my 2014 engine.

Stingray your engine has bolts. The YXZ has studs.

A forged one piece crank like original is stronger most times than a pressed together crank also. I do not believe crank is any different than the 14/15 one piece.

Not trying to start a spat, just curious as this link shows bolt and nut. This fiche wrong as a few have been?http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/5330764ff870024560f04104/crankshaft-piston
This 2016 fiche shows bolt only - http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/a/yam/5612a0f587a8660be46e81c3/crankshaft-piston
Once again if I missed something please say so.

How you blame Cat for this is ridiculous. They are building the sled. Yamaha is supplying the engines.how are they to control what engines Yamaha sends them?I will not make excuses for Yamaha. This has happened every year with Viper so far. Both the new Vector and the YXZ all info including manuals and exact specs were out well before delivery to the dealers. It looks to me like Cat is running the snowmobile show and Yamaha has no clue what the sleds will be till they are at Dealer. It's shameful and not worthy of Yamaha way. You guys saying everybody should have known are wrong. We all knew it was coming but not already. I take pride in trying to be well informed and go out of my way to be informed. This was a total surprise to me also. I feel sorry for those with old 16 and new 16. Feel like this site and all of us let you guys down. Sorry.

I don't. Yamaha is responsible.

The Ecu (Engine Control Unit Assy) has a different part # for 14, 15 and 16.
2016- 8JP-H591A-10-00 ( http://www.yamahapartshouse.com/oemparts/p/yamaha/8jp-h591a-10-00/engine-control-unit-assy )
2015- 8JR-H591A-01-00
2014 - 8JP-H591A-00-00
We know they did a reflash for the 2015 so that would make since for the different part # from 14 to 15.
So with the different part # for 16 do that mean they did another flash for the new 2016 motor?
Could this take care of our starter problem?
