As Cannondale mentioned.... We had Dave_RX1's sleds tore down yesterday evening to actually see the differences. The clutching is the same as 2014/2015. Add to that Lonn from Thunder Products used to work for Yamaha and has extremely close ties with Yamaha and says the cc's and hpr are exactly the same. The ECU looks the same, but don't know why the different part number. With this new info, I am going to call Jim at EVO and see what his 2016 program reads. If he has the old version, I believe Dave (with his permission) can and will send his ECU out to EVO to get double checked. The cylinder head definitley will not switch over unless you have the new valve cover and change where the small coolant hose goes to on the left side of the cylinder head. The bottom end is the same as before....oil filter in the same location, starter is the same, I believe everything in the bottom end is still the same. The exhaust will mount just the same as before. Airbox looks the same so no issue there. Only thing is, did they change rods?
I have put this 2016 on my to do list when the snow flies...to make sure the rev limiter wasn't changed and that clutching from Thunder Products will be spot on.

Don't know.... In my mind....the ECU (to me) was the problem for starters and gears..... When we took Shagman's sled apart, the gear looked too brittle where it broke the teeth clean off instead of mushrooming the teeth over. Either way, not good. Hope whatever changes they are making are for the better.

Awesome job doing all these parts posts. Really appreciate the work. We do need to be careful though since many errors in these have been found in past. For instance the nut on the rod bolts. Not sure about that. ULmER would know. At least they have bolts. The starter # is the same but the Starter One-Way Assy and Gear has different part #’s Is this going to make a differents?

EVERYONE STOP haha
after freaking out for two days , not sleeping, drinking heavy and way to much research. i really do believe that the new engine design is only so yamaha can have one engine case to fit in 3 different applications. nothing to do with performance.
and it snowed in northern newbrunswick last night!!!

My source has said the crank and rods were beefed up for turbo use. True or not I do not know, time will tell?

When and talked to my dealer yesterday about the changes. They had no idea about the changes .
They got in contact with the Yamaha Rep and asked about the changes.
This Rep said he tried the new engine. So that means it was around last winter?
The changes were made so the engine could be used in other machines and to make it stronger for the Turbo.
He said it had the same HP and CC.
But one thing he said made me wonder what's going on " he said it Rev lower" Don't know what he meant by this. was it idling RPM, max RPM, or was the RPM lower when traveling at same speed as the other motor.

NOS-PRO,
Do you think that the new valve cover would bolt up to the old cylinder head?

I asked him that and he didn't think so.

This should put a stop to the wild rumors. Please don't ask me where I got this as I cannot tell you.
The new jackshaft and bearings should be of particular interest.
