2014 Viper xtx, Thunder products clutch kit
I got a great deal on a new MPI 190 kit on eBay for my 2014 viper xtx and I'm making sure I order everything I need for the install. I've read just about every turbo thread I can find on here but I just want to get a little advice. I'm new to turbos but I've worked on my sleds for years and feel comfortable doing the install.
1.). What clutch kit? I see many people using Ulmer but somehow he has no kits on his website. I thought that was his thing? I'm leaning towards thunder products right now.
2.). I know I need afr and boost gauges. Is there any consensus on the best bang for the buck? I have learned that no one seems to like the Koso gauges. I was thinking about getting the OSP gauge mount. I see a lot of people talking about the AEM gauges but there are many to choose from.
3.) I'm using a gates carbon fiber belt that I got from thunder products. Any reason not to stay with this?
4.) can I stick with the stock header or should I upgrade? Wondering if the stock one can handle the pressure over the long term.
5.). Please feel to share any other lessons or warnings. Thanks!

I have innovate gauges. Boost is great. How ever the afr gauge is junk. I still can't get it to work. Aem in my opinion is the way to go.

I am savvy with clutching but I'm about to buy a big venom kit also. I have heard mixed reviews on Ulmer's and now you can't get them from him. Not on the site?

I did put the straight line header on mine but only cuz it's on sale and was a good deal.

I think I'll take your advice and go with the aem. I'm sure Ulmer still sells clutch kits but I couldn't find them on his site. I have the big venom on my NA viper and it's great so I think I'll stick with that brand and just upgrade to the turbo kit.

MPI sells Ulmer's clutch kit on their website. It's worked well for me. I have Innovate gauges but needed to add Innovate's heat sink/bung extender to stop burning out afr sensors. They're working great now. Think about re-gearing and getting your clutches machined for overdrive. You've likely seen those threads. You'll love the turbo.

I'm running Innovate boost and AFR with NO issues. Not on my last 3 sleds and no issues on my 3 buddies sleds running theirs. I run supertips on mine but won't discredit any of the others. And like RacinJason15 I got the header on sale and just couldn't pass it up. Install was a breeze, just take your time and DON'T rush any part of it.

1. I've heard good things and I am leaning big venom if I can't get my own setup the way I like it.
2. I have the AEM 30-4900. It is one gauge that does both boost and AFR which I find nice. It requires MINOR computer tweaks so if you're not comfortable installing software and going through set up menus I'd say go another route. It also isn't cheap, but I got mine with an O2 sensor for $220 on ebay. I got a cheap gauge holder (http://www.ebay.com/itm/371650233504?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT)
3. I am stock for belt and haven't had a reason to change so no comment i guess LOL
4. Stock should serve you well. It has held up for me pretty well. If you do go with the header you will probably need a PCV to keep fuel where you want it as the GEMS module doesn't offer a ton of wiggle room for fuel.
5. Make sure you got the low elevation turbo kit (had a friend get the mountain kit on accident for his cat), use electric grease on all connections you handle in the install and zip tie things out of the way away from heat.

Great advice here. I was leaning towards that aem gauge, I'm glad you find it to be a good one. Does a standard pcv work with turbo? I have one but for some reason I was thinking that the turbo guys use something else. Thanks!

They make a PCV PTI it's called that allows for mapping relative to boost pressure in addition to the normal PCV parameters. Rumor has it that a regular PCV can utilize a MAP sensor (pressure) input the same ways as a PCV PTI with some creative wiring. I actually had a post about this lol because I bought the wrong PCV

I haven't gotten around to getting the PCV in as there is snow and the sled runs well enough (but rich) with the GEMS at the moment but the directions are linked in that post ^^ It's definitely an off season project that is tops on my list.

Did you need a pcv to change fuel when you added the header or was it fine with the gems?

I read through this and it is very interesting. I think it might be a little too complicated for me at the moment so I'll just get the pcv pti. Thanks!

So I just purchased a big venom turbo kit. LON IS A VERY NICE GUY TO DEAL WITH! He is getting my kit all dialed in and sent it out today. Can't wait to try it out. I have heard nothing but great things from the big venom guys! [emoji3]

No I didn't need to make a change with the gems, But I immediately changed the wastegate to the quick spool one. Figured the new header would spool quicker so why not get the quick spool wastegate. I'm seriously concerning having my ecu flashed by evo to get the rev limiter raised. If you are running power commander pti I think you can raise yours. If you buy it from Ulmer he ca preload a map for you. That's what I would do if I was to do it over again. The gems works for me. I just don't want to not be able to adjust fuel if I need to. Pcommander you need a laptop or an android phone I do believe.

if you go with a pcv pti then as far as gauges go you can run a wideband 2 and hook it to the power commander for AFR and get a POD300 and read boost right from your map sensor and afr from the wb2. i have this set up and love it its neat looking and you can data log with it really helping with tuning in clutching and the fuel map
