Well guys new to site and new to yamaha 4 stroke snowmobiles, I just bought a 15 rtx dx, coming off a artcic cat 2 stroke crossfire 800, any advice on does and donts for these sleds and 4 strokes in general? What are the cheaper mods that wont void warranty, not looking to spend 1g, more at few hundred if possible. I keep hearing clutching, whats your recommendation, we ride windy trails with some lakes. Thanks.

Congrats on the new Yami sled, this is a great site lots of help and good advice. Imo replace the stock carbides with better ones and ride and enjoy. Make small suspension adjustments to suit your riding style. :sled1::Rockon:

I figured all that but I was going to change the carbides next season when these wear ,unless the bite is bad.

The stock carbides are junk and won't last a weekend, just replace them now,on mine the carbide fell out before I even rode it! I got 6" inside and outside but I have 135 studs so 6 and 4 might be a good starting point for ya

I used 6" and stock crap( outside) ones for this year and tightened strap one hole and doesn't work to bad.

Replace the carbide now. I took the stock 3 inch and moved it to the outside. I put a 6 inch round bar on the inside. The sled has 175 miles on it and when I checked them at the end of the day today the stock 3 inch was almost down to the ski. No carbide left or anything. The aftermarket 6 inch looked fine. Ran a few hundred feet of road with packed snow between two trails. Other than that it was all trail and ice on the lakes. I moved the 6 inch round to the outside and put a 6 inch shaper on the inside. We'll see how that does tomorrow.

Maybe I should check it just finished 360 mile weekend. Thanks for the tip

Just curious where you rode this weekend. I'm staying in Huntsville. Got here last night. Ran up around Arrow Head and down to Port Sydney all the way across D1023B and back up today. Never rode up here before. These trails are crazy. Tight and twisty forever. Tomorrow heading through Dwight and up to Wolf and Crown Lakes and planning on checking out Dorset Lookout. Probably head up toward North Bay and back on Wednesday. Some of the trails were still tore up from the weekend but over all I've been really impressed with the riding here. It is tough to find places to eat on the trail on a Monday though. Everything was closed today.

I was in markdale and sauble beach area usually head up to Kearney (near Huntsville) few times a year. Surprised to hear no food on Monday those places usually cater to snowmobilers up there. Trails tend get rough up there especially when not everything open. It's much nicer during the week after grooming. Enjoy.

We ride tomahawk wi area and its nice, lots of twisty trails lots of food and gas stops , just avoid bearskin main trail it gets rough. So you guys think 6" inside and 4" outside is a pretty good combo for semi agressive tight twisty. Any advice on does and donts for these 4 strokes, or cheap upgrades.

Yeah I am back to running stock skis with woody's dually 8" adn have great bite now.

Cheap 1st upgrade would be to change over to an 8DN (Apex/Nytro/RX1) belt. Costs less than the 8JP stock belt and lasts longer. $70

After that I would invest in a clutch kit. Do some reading on here...... A good clutch kit can give you more performance and better fuel economy.

I figured on the clutch, just picked up sled today, have you guys heard this stuff about not to use a basic trickle charger on battery , is this dealer trying to sell me a certain 13.2 volt trickle charger or is it b.s.
