It's directly under the coolant/fusebox, it's hard to see with the air box.

Yes boot off is easiest for a good view. Right side if sitting on sled. You can see it with a flashlight. Let me try once. When I had the hood off to install my HID's I tried to find the ECU and for the life of me I couldn't see it. But I'm not really familiar with the layout of the Vipers yet. Can you not see it with hood and sides off? I know you said take left swaybar boot off but didn't want to tear into that at the time.

Ok with right sidepanel off (as sitting on sled)look right through here toward left side of bulkhead with a flashlight. If it's aluminum with words Continental, synergy and Made in China it's the old Cat Ecu.

So I confirmed there is a new flash. I was told this one was mapped by Yamaha which would coincide with their new control over the drive train with the 2017's new ECU and mapping. Fingers crossed will find out how it is in a couple months when the snow falls. I was told it was for 2014 and 2015 ...the 2016's are good to go with current flash with no recalls reported as well.

I dont know that the 16 was mapped by them for sure. I know its starter gear is stronger to prevent stripping.
They just said my 16 has no flash and no recalls outstanding, I an assuming this means no issues

I have a 16 viper with the new engine. No kickbacks and starts right up in wery low temperatures . But sometimes it's hard to start when hot and sometimes uneven ideling. Would sure like a flash to fix it.

I counted about 3 seconds to start.
Thats not bad. I had a few instances before mine was reflashed where it took over 10 seconds holding the key to start it.
I think your ok

Personally for me, i think this is terrible news.
I know a ton of guys need help with the ecu programming and i am happy to hear they will get it.
But for me, i dumped 600 into the evo reflash to try and get this sled running, idleing, and starting properly.
It is looking more and more like that might be wasted money.
If yamaha would just acknowledge and address issues in a timely manner crap like this could be avoided.
This is such a disapointment.
