Thanks for the explanation, that makes more sense - so it seems to be an issue with the mounting system as much as the wheels then.sherlock29 said:well i have 2 rails with bent tabs saying different. has to come down to leverage. 1 bolt 3" away from wheel, once you put more pressure on wheel(ie:larger diameter)=more leverage. this is why it is recomended to use doo's 2 bolt mount for extra support, or excell's mount.. also 2 bolt. one hard hit at the right place bends the rail...BombaPolaYama said:So all of the Yamaha riders who have switched to bigger wheels and all the other manufacturers are wrong?? I may be mistaken, but I don't see how a wheel that is 1/4" bigger diameter is going to put detrimental pressure on the rails.Teamblue4 said:Bigger wheels means more pressure on the rails, I would rather replace hyfax's than rails, It all goes back to set up and conditions that you ride in.

Pioneer sells a 2 bolt mounting system that lowers your stock wheels. This allows you to stay with stock wheels and is stronger. I believe the system sells for around 90.00.

Agree. The Pioneer Kit is machined in such a way that includes a hub which the stock wheel slips into. This is much stronger than the stock mount which only incorporates a spacer / washer system; creating a weak point. Excell uses the weaker stock components.

Saw the new slides at Haydays, they look pretty good!
If they are slicker, they are less likely to hurt the track clips than conventional slides.
Besides, I have lost a bunch of track clips getting the current slides hot.
Can't wait to try the new ones.
Will beat on them in Michigan & let you know how they hold up!

I also saw the new slide today at the dealer conference in Huntsville, this design is totally different than anything thats been tried before and looks like it will work good.

Again, what is the difference between switching to bigger wheels and machining your hyfax down...?BombaPolaYama said:So all of the Yamaha riders who have switched to bigger wheels and all the other manufacturers are wrong??
If bigger wheels work, then machining your hyfax down the same amount is going to work as good...

Well, the issue is that with the stock wheels the slides are wearing to the point where there basically is no slide left. Mine wore right through to the aluminum. Larger wheels won't prevent your slides form wearing but should help with longevity and help prevent them from wearing completely through.

So the accessories department finally fixed the engineering department's screw up since 06?

I have heard about these before but I am not sure where exactly they are installed?
Do you have any pics with them on your sled?

Instructions here but no picture - SLP's site is not real clear on this, but I don't think that the anti-wear pads can be installed on tracks that have all the windows open.Irv said:Mighty said:Get these and forget about it:

I ordered a set for rolling resistance, speed and mileage. Could care less if they last longer.
Will be here Nov.

I have the SLP pads on my 06 GT. I have only gotten 2 years out of them and they need replacing before I start this season. I only ride about 800 to 1000 miles a year so the life expectancy of them is not that good. Getting the old ones out is gonna be the hard part. The pads themselves are pretty worn down so there is not much to get a hold of with pliers or visegrips. And many of the studs are bent which is gonna make getting the locknuts off a difficult proposition. NOT looking forward to it.

Ya, those look ok but I'm still just gonna try out the new DuPont embedded sliders this fall. Heck, I got over 3,000 miles on my last set of sliders on my Attak, and they had lots of meat on them when I swapped them. I do religiously use ice scratchers which help alot. So the way I figure it these new DuPont embedded sliders may just last the 8,000+ miles Yamaha has claimed they can last. Not that it's overly complicated, but changing sliders is a pita maintenance process that I don't care if i ever have to do again.

Thanks, but I think I will skip them based on the info below your thread,
sound like a pita to me.
I'll probably just purchase some of the new Yamaha ones when they become available up here?
Appreciate your help
