The fact is every other oem installs a larger wheel then Yamaha. this is one of the reasons Excel Offered the X wheel. We installed these on two 2011 Apex's and all Hyfax wear was eliminated. We also gained 5 to 6 MPH. Putting a hyfax on that lasts longer doesn't fix the drag issue that causes heat and in turn kills performance.
The first sled we installed them on was a 2011 XTX apex. The hyfax were gone in 400 miles and the sled was ridden in perfect conditions in the Houghton area of the UP. we put Excels wheels on and he put 3000 miles on the hyfax still look like New!!!!

Makes you wonder why Yamaha just doesn't come out with a slightly larger wheel doesn't it?

This problem has only been around for 5 years. It usally takes them 6 years to acknowledge that there is a problem, so I figure they will provide a solution in the 6th year. How do you translate " Get it right the first time " to chinese ?? LOL

The slides are 120.00 and lasting 8000 miles or more maybe. Its obvious that people have said that they have had bent rails after installing larger wheels so why would you take that chance. For me if someone can prove to me that they dont have any problems with larger wheels after 5000 miles. I would do both and never change slides again and have better top end. But for now 120.00 and half hour sound like a better than a weekend and a lot more money and headache with bent rails in january. just my .2$

Funny, I've never heard of any Doo or Poo riders complaining of bent rails or premature slider wear?
Wonder what they are doing that Yamaha can't seem to do?

Yamaha rails aren't designed to take the stress of the oversized wheels. It would be pretty easy for them to design a rail to match new, larger, wheels if they chose to go that route to fix slider wear.
Now that being said- I have seen with my own eyes oversized wheels bend rails as well as people with well OVER 5,000 miles with oversized wheels and no bent rails. I chose to put on the X wheels this fall and hope, and forget about my slider wear.

Exactly not designed to withstand extra pressure probably same thickness as doo polaris but design and weight of sled wont allow. But understandable to each their own, not for me until rails are updated. good luck

The guys with the bent rails from oversized wheels, does it seemed to be related to how they ride? Or does it just happen? This is the first I am hearing about bent rails, after hearing about the new hyfax I was planning on doing both(hyfax and bigger wheels) and hoping to never replace hyfax as long as I own the sled. I do ride really aggressive, but would rather replace hyfax then bent rails.

I must be lucky ..... My 07 apex rtx with pro-action skid has stock wheels (newer spoke type) and SLP brand slippery pads added in-between the track clips (its a every other open window track) along with a small wheel kit at the front bend in the rail and have 4500 miles on my current set of slides with little wear. Now before the add-ons it was not good at all.....1500 miles tops! ALL this was in perfect conditions. Thats the only thing that I'am happy with now on this skid.... looking at new aftermarket skid?

I am going with sliders maybe I will get 8000 miles a better top end with new slides and save money on getting the wheels. If I got 5000 for that price I would be happy.

bent a rail with regular wheels.... just hit somethig at the perfect angle i guess. id have no problem with larger wheels with the feedback on here being 99 percent positive.
I dont see why this is so hard to understand.I believe with a worn set of sliders the wheels are putting more or just as much pressure on the rails since at that point the wheels are sticking past the slides.Solution is to put new slides on at same time as new bigger wheels such as Excell. The wheels wont prevent wear of slides they just prevent how FAR they will wear.So instead of being left with paper thin slides that seem to last forever like stock Yamaha. You have alot of slide left once initial wear is done.Which gives you some insurance rather than relying on thin slides.
I love my Yamahas but this seems to be like a issue with a bullheaded kid who thinks that anything is better than admitting something is wrong. Its embarrassing and Yamahas $ would be much better spent on other things than lining Duponts pockets.

I will be chainging my Hyfax before running the wheels as well as taking a couple other provisions to make sure the rails don't bend. I think a lot of the rail bending problems occurred with the changing of mounts or modification of mounts as well.
