Newbie.....

Not understanding you clearly.........stroking you....messing with you? Nah.....

You're right, but glare ice means going slower on trails anyways except for that SCARY sphincter tightener that catches you off guard. I CAN tell you this because i tested it. My 1,000,000 lb. Apex(per Doo scale) with 129'' track by FAR out-stopped my buds' Doo with 120'' studded track on his 100lb.( per Doo scale) machine. LOL. He had 5,000 miles on those studs(probably dull) & i had about 10,000. Mine are still sharp. I had 240 scratchers stopping me. They work better than most would think. NOT as good as good sharp studs, but better than my 121'' track with 192 warn studs with 3500 miles. I switched years ago & not only have not looked back, but have convinced many to switch. One bud refuses to go WAY up north on big trips with anybody running studs. I got a deal for you! Since you ride Maine, let's ride. We can play all day & report our findings on TTY. Two exact 'Winders going head to head ALL day. I have two 500 mile days & one 600 under my belt, so bring some Ben-Gay...BTW i'm planning on dropping 5 lbs. to get down to my 165lb. fightin' weight so when i get across the lake first, i'll have them get the coffee warm. LOL...

the stopping compared to the doo is more about the 2.86 pitch vs the 2.52 and the difference in the weight of the machines!

There were ALOT of different variables so it was a so so comparison. My point is, pre-studs are not a "joke" as stated. My pre-studs are sharp at 12,500 miles. His are dull at 5,000. I should say "were" cuz that's one of the sleds i towed after blowing exchanger. Like you stated earlier Mr. SJ, the most important thing in studding is choose what suits you best. Some admit peoples differences & some think their way is the only way. I call you "Mr" cuz with 4000 posts, that deserves some respect. Or maybe you're as obsessed as me

Fyi. I'm not trying to effect your decision...obviously you have had and liked your choice...and it works well for you...that's what matters...

I'm merely pointing out...and for others who read to decide...often guys don't realize they aren't comparing apples to apples I.e. The track pitch...length of track etc...
Also, I agree...they aren't a joke...contrary to believe...not everybody rides the same..or the same conditions...

To anyone...There is no right or wrong...Only what's right for you...and if you have experienced something and know it's good and bad..understand it's full limitations...Well then you're making an educated decision .

However, for those that haven't experienced this or that...the replies I make hope to help...with bias? Sure...we're all biased based on our experiences..

At least you're open minded. I may have to make a midwest trip next year to ride with some of you Mi & Wi boys. You, Mr. Cannon, Mr. Sled, Mr. Mighty to name a few. The UP has always been on my bucket list. I could swing around & pester you for a 400 mile day. They compare me to Hummingbird on crack so drink plenty of coffee. LOL

Okay I amend my statement.........prestudded tracks are a joke for anyone looking for serious traction........

What's the "county"?
How in the world do you ride Maine, and not know what The County is?

Ok back to the ski s, these are tunner 3 s now lol my dealer said there come ing with 4s length for both . I will be running studs ( 144 down the middle) on the 137 le red and white. Got stealth 4 th wheel kit osp belt tool skid plate hand guards taller windshield spare belt. Now my question is carbides???
Or snow trackers on the tunner 3 ??
I had tunners 2 on my apex 2/4 carbides and hatted them, put them reversed on my phazer and they are awesome. Kept the 6 shaper bars and dart less on apex (which is a poor mans snow tracker ) and they work for me.
Hate darting.

Many years ago on my first job a guy pointed to another guy and told me that "he" was from the county......I thought he meant county jail so I kept my eye on him........within a week I found out what the county meant...lol
