no reverse 2015 apex

Since it was so loose, as I gave it quite a few turns. My guess is running it a bit loose was not good, but not killing it. And since I didn't want it to be the cause of my reverse issues, I followed the service manual. Needless to say, it has always been my impression to go tight, then back it off as suggested.

So I fudged and went "light finger tight" and then tightened up the jam nut. I think it should be fine as it is now, but I may check it after another 100 miles. It's much easier to adjust than that reverse.

I use to do it that way but its harder on the bearings being that tight. My finger tight is like vicegrip tight. So I usually back it off a tad. I believe if your someplace in that range of finger tight and 1/4 turn out, it will be fine.

I agree, that's why I had to snip the service manual. As I found it ironic on a page of specifications and torque specs, they use a term like "finger tight" That should tell a person, that it's not as critical as we are making it. Especially with such a wussy grip that I have. My finger tight was about when I started to feel the pressure of the chain.

Exactly :) ;)!

So to follow up this older thread, The reverse was giving me issues on my 2012 XTX last month. I went in to adjust the chain tension, and inspect the linkage.

And what do I find, the pivot bolt in the linkage had backed out enough to change the linkage enough that it would not engage. I tighten up that pivot bolt, and it works as if nothing had changed. It really is amazing how little movement it takes to make that reverse engage or not engage.

Oh man, when that linkage is off though, the horrible noises that come out of that chaincase. You would swear it was gonna blow up!

Find your smallest wrenches. And those ratcheting wrenches can be money! Don't be afraid to pull out the shroud around the tank and footwell to get better access. As it's stupid tight in there.

Next one down there is adjusting that stupid parking brake! I bet my pads are shot from leaving it locked at least once in the past 7 years.

So when doing my preseason on my XTX I did the drive chain adjustment per the manual of finger tight and then lock it down. Spent the weekend fighting reverse, after reading several threads it looks like the Workshop Manual may be wrong. After digging around on here I have seen anywhere from back of 1/4 to 1 full turn. I am sure this is my issue as had no problems with reverse the last 6k miles. My RX1s and my 09 Apex has had no issues with reverse, must have backed them off after reading on here. Must have had a brain fart while doing this, after all I am getting old man syndrome where I cant remember #*$&@, will back off a 1/4 turn and retest.

It maybe part of it, but it could be linkage needs to be reset as well.

Thanks for bringing this thread to the top. After watching Tom's track change video, and seeing how the parking brake is actually adjusted, it was super easy to add a bit of bite to my parking brake. My XTX no longer rolls off the tilt trailer! Thank you so much!

The few how to vids I have posted have gotten thousands of hits. If a person has a particular procedure down so well that they can do it in their sleep, I am totally for them sharing a quick video. Even a seasoned pro can pick up tips from others experience. Remember 2007 when many of us were begging for a video on how to do the phazer oil change? That procedure was hard to describe in print.
